Carolina Panthers - Baltimore Ravens Joint Practice 1

The Dolphins, and especially Suh at the time, shat all over the Panthers during joint practices and how the Dolphins had to tone it back.  The Dolphins beat writers were quasi-crowning them during the practices on Twitter and talking about how the Panthers couldn't match the physicality...

Then a couple of months later Cam and the rest of the gang demolished them on MNF...

So yeah that absolutely happened

this hurts so good to remember

Shi's build reminds me of Antonio Brown / Emmanuel Sanders -- that 5'10 / 185 ish -- quick feet, vertical speed, consistent separation. This is not a ''he'll be these guys post'' it's a ''he reminds me of these guys post''.

AB & Sanders were 5th and or 6th round picks respectively if memory serves, so this could be a comp on talent meeting opportunity in regard to a career arc moving forward. I just wish we'd selected Fields to go along with this infusion of young skill talent.

We had -- CMC / Moore / Robbie

We added -- TMJ / Tremble / Shi

That's just a piece of the personnel skill pie, the only season that might usurp this is 2013.

I like that...  and not to harp on Darnold, but to your point about leaving Fields on the board is that the thing that sucks most about passing up on him, is if Darnold doesn't work out, we will have to give up a LOT in the future to try to draft a guy that's even slightly comparable.

All of these folks crying about the ones playing in preseason: y'all do realize they get more meaningful snaps during the joint practices... right?

No, if we don't trot Sam out there to hand the ball to a second string running back in the vanilla "don't show the playbook" offense, against an opposing team's 2s,  in a preseason game, we are just sitting around and waiting for things to magically fix themselves.

I'm not making claims that we're going to be great this year and it'll be all sunshine and roses. There have been positives and negatives to takeaway from this offseason so far but I'm not going to make any assumptions about how the season is going to go based on how we look in practice. It's silly. Practices (and joint practices in particular) serve many different purposes and coaches have a plan about how to go about it and positive results don't always show up in things we as fans or that media can see. There is so much more to these practices than meets the eye and people get way too worked up about "winning or losing" against the Ravens, Colts, etc. when that really doesn't factor in much at all.

2015 really was the perfect example of this. Nobody here thought there was any chance at all based on how training camp and preseason went that we'd have any real shot at competing. We were coming off a losing season (albeit one that came with a playoff win...) and on paper had no reason to think we would be better. Our starters looked like complete trash in the joint practices and preseason games they played. Yet we dominated our way to 15-1 and a SB appearance (with an unfortunate choke, but still a tremendously successful season overall).

There's just no reason to read into it like you are and make up your mind that we won't be able to compete against playoff teams. The point is we still have no idea. Why be negative about it now?

Yeah, we really shouldn't have to tell Huddlers, except maybe for the ones new to football, that it's not necessarily wise to draw anywhere near definitive conclusions from preseason games, but, then again, it is the Huddle and some folks just love their narratives and love to jump the gun.

I try to wait out September before drawing conclusions. Of course there are times when something looks so good or so bad after the first two or three games--Cam was legit, or Shula was not the one--that I may say something definitive. But, the dynamics of preseason aren't given into extremes.

It takes a lot to go right to be top 10 and no way do we have the LBs to pull that off. We are definitely better than last year but then again we were terrible last year.

Exactly. It's a process and we are much closer to the beginning than the end. I am absolutely pumped about our DL, I am cautiously optimistic about our secondary and our LB's......well.....I am sure they will get a participation trophy.

What rhule is doing is very abnormal. Hope it works out but if we come out looking sloppy as hell against the shithole jets you guys will just blame it on something else.

Abnormal historically but we may see this a lot more considering the shorter preseason and longer regular season.

By 2019 Cam had an injury history, remember ... Darnold is like 23 without one.  Put him in some game situations to get him reps... The offense needs it.  Our backup QB battle isn't so intense that they can't spare a quarter and a half or two...

Without one? Sam Darnold has never played a full 16 game schedule at any point in his career. He actually does have a significant injury history.

Hey Darnold played LB in high school. If PJ takes his job like that one poster says then we can just play Darnold at LB. Problem solved!

As injury prone as he has been as a QB, I don't think he'd hold up to that grind at LB.

Can't be worse than Whitehead though.

Lol, it's practice. I wouldn't read anything into it at all. The Patriots have done a lot of joint practices in the last 2 decades and had plenty where they've looked like crap and obviously still had success in actual games.

probably working on the stuff we are bad at. which is only a good thing.

thats the only way to get better at that stuff
