Post Mortem on Little

eh. I still see picks like Devin and Ealy (though that might be because I had higher expectations for both) as worse picks. It was nice at the time to draft a T who at least one time was held in high regard and wasn't from some Div.II college.

Sucks but I've been mad about worse picks in the 2nd.

I think Dave was just Hurney with a worse personality. Look at how horrible the Giants are. Ironically Brandon Beane was the best GM in our organization but JR was so horrible he overlooked him for years. Oh well its history now.

losing beane was really, really bad

What makes it even worse is if we had just stayed put we could have snagged McCoy right before NO.

Kept our 1st 3rd for Winovich and used our 2nd on CGJ (we needed a safety).

And the worst part is everyone here knew Little was a bad pick except for Hurney. It's mind numbing how bad his 2nd and 3rd round picks were with a couple of exceptions.

Little, Armanti Edwards, Dwayne Jarrett, Gaulden, Silatolu, Clausen, Fua, Everette Brown, and even Colbert...  all 2nd and 3rd rounders.

Yeesh.

I always credited Hurney for his hit rates on first rounders, but all his blunders elsewhere made him absolutely atrocious.  I always said, our 2nd and 3rd round picks under him quite possibly had to be the worst in the league during his tenure.

    • You might have been in this discussion about this very subject not that long ago. We were breaking down the ‘NFL’ guys allocated to different SEC teams. It was real lopsided like you are saying. There very well may have been SEC teams that had one or two defensive players, at most, drafted. Not isolated but pretty common.  Meanig the Alabama offense was often facing 9 or so players that went on to teach or sell insurance or whatever…
    • Picking up his 5th locks him in for 2 years simply due to the economics of the situation.   What you are suggesting simply doesn't happen.  After year 3 a decision is made either short or long term.   Its just the way this has shaped out.   In short Bryce has 8 games to get his poo together.   But like I said earlier the wild card are the teppers.
    • It does not work like that. For early 1st round QB the after the 3rd year its three things- pay, cut, or trade. 0% chance BY will play on the 5th year, they will force Panthers hand with the last bit of cleavage (lols) Leverage they have. So you can either pay him 200+ mill with around 130 guaranteed or trade him for ..... I guess mid round picks.... 😕
