Funky Friday with Cam

I think it was a combination of both.  If the Pats had prime Cam then lack of vaccination would have been an inconvenience they had to live with.  With Mac progressing quickly in camp, they felt comfortable enough to roll with him and Cam's vaccination status was something that may have tipped the scales.

Basically, as a fan I didn’t want him to give Mac and opportunity at least this season to steal the job, and not being vaxxed with the current nfl rules did just that.

i agreed with majority of what cam stated in the video, however the reality is until he’s vaxxed he’ll be waiting on injury before a opportunity arises

Man if you didn’t watch the video just say so, I know it was 43 mins long but you are just putting misinformation out left and right.

he literally said he got the teams ok to get a 2nd opinion in atl with his dr, a precautionary checkup, he also stated that if the team didn’t ok it he would have never made the trip to atl.

If you don’t like cam just say it but this is a momental reach in your above statement

The dude has a PJ Walker avatar and simultaneously tried to convince me as recently as two days ago that he was all aboard the Will Grier train. Just let him yell loudly to the echos bouncing back at himself.

It was both business and football.  Unvaxed players are a liability, and having one in the QB room is a particularly big risk I think.  And, Jones is honestly the future of the Patriots, regardless of this season.

I think once a starter gets injured, Cam has a shot. I have a strong feeling Cam is better respected among active personnel in the NFL than he is fans and commentators.

The thing with a guy like Newton who's always won, always conquered, always come out on top, etc is that when the time comes that you can't do that anymore, it can be extremely hard to deal with.

Way too much is being made of the vaccination status. The reality is that they drafted Mac Jones in the first round to be the QB of the future. And he showed enough competence under center to warrant taking the starting job week 1.

You can hypothesize any reason you like for Cam getting cut, but the reality is that this was always Mac's team when the coaching staff felt he was ready based on where they picked him. That is no fault of Cam's. It's just the reality.

Lance and Fields probably SHOULD be starting week 1 just the same. But BB has the balls to pull the trigger. We all know its Lance and Fields team and at some point this season they will take over. More teams should honestly just rip off the bandaid and go for it. Its not like Jimmy G and Andy Dalton don't also realize that they won't be the starting QBs by season end. Everyone knows.

In my ideal world for Cam, I would actually LOVE for him to say "okay, maybe I am not going to be a starting QB anymore, but I still want a ring" and join the Ravens. That playbook could get really interesting. They have lost Dobbins and Edwards and Cam could be a duel threat hybrid RB. Can run the option, take direct snaps. Imagine lining up Lamar Jackson and Cam in the backfield and making the defense try to figure out wtf is going on. That would be fun to watch!

Of course there is no indication that the Ravens are even interested. But damn that could be really fun.

Thanks for posting, Nas!

Cam, just needs to get vaccinated. I understand the hesitation, my wife and I were in that boat as well, but we both got fully vaccinated as of June 2021. I actually got covid back in September 2020, and it was horrible. I went through the same path that most go through, and ended up with a pneumonia. Once I got through the rough patch, it took a few months to get back to "normal". Nobody wants to go through that, and getting the vaccine can replicate that for some for a few days. Ultimately, Cam just has to do his part and come out the other end with absolutely no excuses for any NFL team to deny him a shot.

In the end, I am glad that I can root against NE again! It was weird to give them some pseudo-support while Cam was QB1. lol

That would be insanely fun too watch, if it worked.

I've always thought Cam made sense here if he could be Darnold's backup and we were serious about making a run for a championship. The downside obviously is his personality is so big, he could cause a distraction among the fanbase and media.

We all know his shoulder isn't the same and he wears down over a full season. But if he had to come in and play the last 3 or 4 games and we could be in the playoffs, Cam could lead that run and I have much more faith in his abilities to do so than Walker.

Agreed. And it probably wouldn't work, but seeing both Cam and Jackson in the backfield really would make you wonder what was about to happen. Both can take off and run, one with power and one with speed. Both can through the ball down field. Imagine seeing them line up that way 6-7 times a game. It would really get your imagination going.

That is fair, but I think vaccination was probably the difference between Cam getting benched but retained as a backup vs. getting released.  Of course, they'll never admit that in public.

Funny thing is Newton himself is arguing within the video that he was going to be released regardless of whether this incident happened or not.

Now with that said, I think pretty much all of us have a hard time buying the notion that his vax status and the resulting incident had nothing to do with his release.

So we're to page 6 and we've got forum critique, specific poster critique, mod critique, thread critique, fan critique, and some Cam critique.  I love you all.  Football starts this weekend.  Get some!

I couldn't make it long into the video mainly because I don't want to waste my time but do love the guy.  Hope he finds something cool to do moving forward.

Go ahead and say what you really mean

I could be mistaken but I believe that he's pointing to a post above his in agreement with the "^^^^". I don't think he was bleeping out an expletive.

Granted, that doesn't mean that his thought process doesn't derive from the realm that you're insinuating.
