Ammendola was out there, available at the start of this offseason (he couldn't find a team last year). Somehow he was missed in our search. Go figure.

Technically he wasn't missed in our search, we actually signed him back in March but released him in May lol.  But either way, he didn't even attempt a FG or XP so it's too soon to say whether we missed out on anything.  His punts were pretty respectable for a placekicker but we have one of the best punters in the league.  TBD whether he can actually kick balls through the uprights.

I don't think Shi Smith ever returned punts at SC.

Newsome would seem an ideal fill in for Smith while he's out and a better practice squad WR than our current ones once Smith is back.

I'd just give him Erikson's roster spot and both could stay on active roster instead of one of them getting plucked. Nobody would be looking to pluck Erikson.

It's almost like they're *whispers* not that different

Most coaches preach discipline / reducing penalties / not beating yourselves.

The big difference between Rivera and Rhule is that Rhule is building a roster at the moment. Rivera never managed that.

Honestly, I think Rhule is building a roster that's mostly comprised of players he coached in college, and people he inherited. Not convinced that's an upgrade over Rivera.

It’s amazing how much we expect. Erickson was 12th amount punt returners with at least 9 punt returns (lots with 1 to 4) at 10.1 ypr. He averaged 10.3 ypr yesterday.

Sure, he didn’t look like he’s going to break one, but that would have been close to top 10 average last year and he never once looked shaky. Maybe Shi will give us a boost, but if you told me we’d have a guy who hangs on to the ball and gets me 10 yards per return, I’d take that all year. The last few years it felt like an adventure every time we fielded a punt. I’m over that.

Also, we had a thread in here about bringing Cooper back. He averaged 5.9 ypr last year. Cooper’s career average is 8.9 ypr. Seems like white guy = slow even though we sure didn’t seem to have a lot of Jets blocked on the first two returns. We averaged 6.8 ypr as a team in 2019 and 6.9 ypr in 2018. Seems to me that maybe we need to celebrate having 50% more yards per punt return than the past 3 years and a punt returner who doesn’t appear to be scared to field a punt.

yeah but our coverage was awesome

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
