I mean come on dude, objectively Baker Mayfield is a MUCH better QB than Jake Delhomme ever thought about being, and this is coming from someone who LOVES Jake.  The only people saying any different are people on this website.

Jake beats him in play and in the commercial studio.

Jake had one of the best Superbowl performances in history until Kasay choked the game away.

Agree to disagree. He would immediately be a top 3 QB in Panthers history, IMO.

Unfortunately top 3 is not hard to make given the distance between 2 and everyone else.  I mean, Beuerlein had one incredible season with us, so there's that. Lol.

Plus one of the greatest QB draws in team history.

Never forget the play

I was a big Beuerlein fan but Baker would most likely eclipse him and Jake with relative ease(assuming he stuck around).

Too bad they couldn't trade AJ Bouye or Haynes for some IOL help but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Might be a good idea to open up the checkbook for someone like Ryan Jensen from Tampa or Connor Williams from Dallas in the off-season. Williams is versatile, plays on a good line, and has improved every year. Jensen is an upgrade at C and would hurt the Bucs if we signed him.

Clutch matters in the end.

Down 4 in the Superbowl 90 yards to go and 2 minutes left on the clock there's no Panther QB I'd rather have than prime Jake that includes a hypothetical Baker.

He just has a way to elevate himself. If I remember correctly he was the only guy at the time who's numbers went up when down in the last 2 minutes.

Also, Wyatt Teller, the huge RG for the Browns, is an UFA this coming off-season

A good free agent signing to make up for 60 and 75 this past year would go a long way with Brady Christensen starting at LG and a solid first round Offensive Lineman.

The Iowa kid and Teller would be huge for the line.

You must have blacked that AZ playoff game out. Huh...

    • the problem is if we're waiting for Cam v2, we're going to be waiting decades longer.  our best hope is that bryce is better than we all think he is and that canales is able to work some serious magic with him and the scheme to help him live up anywhere close to the potential we thought he had. he's a smart kid. we just have to be able to have a situation that allows him to use his smarts.  the truth with cam was that een he had to have a system tailored for his skillset coming into the league. the difference between him and luck (which was the debate in '09 when we thought luck was an option) was that with luck, he could be placed in any offense and it would work...hence the higher floor he had  than cam. cam, though, needed an offense that was built around him to reach his potential. he could have done alright in a more pro-style offense, but to reach his ceiling (which was seen by a lot of people as being higher than luck). i don't think having to have an offense tailored around what you can and can't do well is a problem for people who can develop around them...after they've truly identified what those can and can't items are. we didn't have that last year. i think we have that this year. we want a guy who can carry a team on his back, but those kind of guys are very rare. we don't need to spend our time trying  find that guy, because even when you have them there's no guarantee that they will be enough.  championships are won, quite often, by teams who learn to compensate for less than the greatest QB play. you have a great defense and can protect the ball while wearing out the other defense and you've got a chance.  we don't need Bryce to be superman (despite where we drafted him and what we paid to get him). we just need him to be able to run (manage) a good offense.
    • The Panthers aren't building a Bryce Young roster. Alabama didn't recruit personnel to fit a Bryce Young scheme. Canales' approach is to build an NFL roster (which they didn't have last season) and then cater his scheme and playcalling to what the players do best. The team is not pigeon holing itself into an offense that doesn't fit any other QB. Their goal this off-season was to provide NFL average or better talent to the offense - period. Very little to do with matching personnel for  Bryce Young's skillset or lack thereof.
