He is going to cost a 1st at the least. He is one of the betters qbs in the league this year.  He is actually a top 4 QB when facing pressure.

LOL well thats really good for him if he does end up on the Panthers because he will be seeing  a poo-ton of pressure everytime he drops back.

Matt had his chance to pick OC, now its Fitts turn

Don't think it works like that.

And Rhule is a guy that would likely prefer to be terminated rather than not being able to continue running his system/the show.

Either Rhule's show or no show. I doubt he'll leave here and not get any other opportunities. Even Joe Brady is still getting interest from NFL teams (not sure for what positions though). Have to thing colleges would be interested as well.

Regardless I am part of the Fire Rhule train.

And regardless I think we are doomed for another rebuild year after this years regression.

A new HC and OC would have things looking up though

Rhule is a huge control freak (he turned down the Jets over staff control) so trying to force him to let someone else choose his assistants likely means he walks...

...which I'm fine with.

I wonder if he does end up having to have his staff chosen for him if he clashes with them. I mean he would be able to interview them... so if he chooses them, its fair to assume he would like them, right?

We will need:

  • A new coach
  • Multiple heavy investments for once on the OL, ideally C and LT
  • A new QB (Corral, Ridder, Strong, Howell, etc.)

One path is a trade down, take a OL first, then a QB late 1st/early 2nd like Ridder or Howell. Hopefully with Hackett or Eberflus at the helm.

true, but I did say offense.  Rhule is a separate issue.

Yeah, no he isn't.

Rhule demanded the power to select his own staff as a condition of employment.

Anyone believe Rhule wants someone in the building that knows more about football than he does?

After two years it sure doesn't look like it.

I'm not so sure.

In his time here, Rhule has parted ways with two staff members. Both came from outside his circle, and both were replaced with people from inside his circle.

Regarding Brady, Rhule said his hire was "out of his comfort zone". And even though he says he doesn't regret that, it's not hard to imagine him using that as justification to not go that route again.

If he stays, and there are staff changes, I imagine the finished product will have more Rhule influence rather than less.

So an interesting thing occurred this past Friday at my company xmas party I attended. We flew in all of our team members from all over the country... I often make jokes about the Panthers in social environments, including with my clients.

Well turns out one of our newer employees in PA, is the son of a former coach at PSU (among other schools) that is now retired, who has known Matt Rhule since they were both volunteer assistants in '98 at PSU.

I shared with him that the fan base is losing faith in Rhule, and he seems like the kind of guy who doesnt know what he is doing. The kid actually got rather defensive (he is not a panthers fan at all), and said that his father has shared a lot of stories about Rhule, and how many who have interacted with him have instantly respected him. Shared that players gravitate to Rhule and that he builds relationships while building programs. He stated that his father has been intrigued by the way the Panthers are run, but doesnt jump to any assumptions because as observers we have no idea what happens on the inside. He agreed with the moving on from Joe Brady, and that even at LSU Brady didnt have to pull together game plans. He was apart of them, but the curator. He said that Rhule was trying to help Brady "get there," but its evident to what happened.

Lastly, his father stated that Rhule is a super humble person, and honestly thought he could build something with the same people he had before, but he expects Rhule to recover and make the necessary decisions this offseason to course correct. He also stated that no one knows how Tepper thinks, and ultimately that will be the decision make in the end. He did state that Tepper seems like the type that wants his investments to succeed.

This thread reminded me of this convo I had on Friday, just now came to me. Anyways dont shoot the messenger.

The ultimate truth though is that while Rhule may know what he's doing at the college level, all indications are that he's in over his head at the pro level.

Building and running an NFL team is a massively different project than doing the same for college.

    • Best I heard its a clause the bungals want to add. It prevents them form paying the full guaranteed amount if triggered. No one knows the details of the clause, but guesses are it relates to off-field stuff. Stewart is in the right here. Before they signed burrow, chase, and Higgins they were the cheapest team in the league bar none. Unlike tepper or jarrah Jones or any other NFL ownership, all Mike brown owns is the beagals. Every other owner has many other money making businesses, not bungals.  I still remember when Brenston Bunker was starting on WFNZ and he told the story about the beagals telling him to pick a used cup form a huge pile, LOLS! They been on hard knocks and I remember Marvin lewis telling the players not to take home Gatorade bottles........* but in that case, I believe some players were taking a back pack and filling it up with drinks. Still you make millions(around 200million) in net profit and Im sure coke gave the team those bottles, still... Its a 32 team billion business, someone has to the cheapest.....Panthers were around the next cheapest team before tepper bought them and he has POURED millions upon millions into the team. He bought a bubble that Richardson never would, so the team had to gather in building during the rain. He spent millions on coofus machines that he just gave away like the bubble. Tepper made that AC trailer a thing. I've trashed him about his concerts and taking away end zone seats from fans. But the guy will spend money any way to efforts to better the team, dang I just remembered the deal he gave Rhule- more than Andy Reid at the time.  I know results have not came, but Id 100% take Tepper over Mike brown as a owner.
    • There's no way they're shipping you some uniform you haven't seen lol.  I feel like they'd just refund you and ask if you wanted the new one when it launched. Probably just making the blues the primary, or a new helmet for a new alternate/variation.
    • Man even after 5-12 seasons they are able to produce hype videos.
