The handling of the Sam Darnold situation is one of the worst decisions in franchise history.

sad that Darnold isnt even the clear cut worst decision

Matt Rhule’s 2021 offense makes Mike Shula look like a f*cking genius.

Agreed on the bad contracts given out by Hurney. They are right there with Darnold.

The trade itself for Darnold is indefensible. Considering what we gave up, we had no choice but to guarantee the 5th year. Otherwise, that draft capital was wasted for what would have been a one year deal. You don’t give up that kind of capital without hoping to have the player you are trading for for a few years. Problem is whatever evaluation they were doing with Darnold was awful. If they really did decide to go with that plan after seeing Fields’ pro day, then wtf were they looking at?

The plan should have been to stick with Bridgewater another year and get a QB in the draft, then fix the o-line with people not named Cam Erving.

This whole thing has been a colossal dumpster fire of poor decision making by Rhule and his evaluations. He isn’t cut for this at all. Wonder what Frittner and Morgan is thinking in all of this

Cashing their fat chode paychecks while scouting the next CB prospect to draft #6 overall

The hiring of Rhule might be the worst decision.

Hiring bad coaches happens.  Almost all franchises have a number of coaches they wish they hadn't hired.  Normally, they get fired after 2-3 years and the franchise moves on.  But if Fields or Jones ends up being a good long term qb, the franchise could in theory be kicking itself for years over this move.

They need to explain the 5th year option logic

‘we want Sam  to know we believe in him’

who knew we had such a humanitarian as a coach…then again, easy to be free with compassion when someone  else writes the checks.

same reasoning for not drafting a QB ‘we don’t want Sam looking over his shoulder.  He is the guy’.

For us older fans, Sean Gilbert was worse.  Kalil might be as bad.  But yeah, Darnold was a predictably terrible move.

Yeah. As bad trades go, Gilbert was far worse but this ranks pretty high.  And had we drafted Jones or Fields we would be calling them busts right now.  This OL would have them on a Darnold like trajectory.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
