Snow and Rhule wanted Sam and got him.   Not Dan Morgan.

Cam Newton was a Panther ultimately because Ron wanted him.

Wtf does Snow have to do with grabbing Sam, lol.

and no, RR is on record wanting to go with marcel dareus. Marcel even said that RR told him they were gonna pick him at 1. MH is the reason we took Cam.

There were some quotes from Rhule before the year where he goes over watching film and Phil Snow saying that Sam looked like Matt Stafford. Believe it was on the Rich Eisen show. Snow definitely liked Sam and I think Rhule trusts Snow more than any other person on the planet.

People think that the NFL forced Rhule to trade a top 40 draft pick for Sam Darnold and he was just unlucky that he was bad.

Yeah they had Teddy under contract and the 8th pick in the draft, it was set up perfectly to get your rookie QB. Drafting a bust and trading for a 3 year proven bust is not the same thing. Not money wise or fan excitement wise

Matt Rhule has gone on record like 100 times that it was Phil Snow that came to him to about Sam Darnold.  And then Rhule went and got him.  That’s not a secret.

Cam was only a Panther ultimately because of Ron.   That’s how it works when you have a brand new HC building his team.  He is calling those shots.    Same reason we didn’t go after Herbert who Marty also liked.

Marty has always been a coaches GM. Only time Marty did what he wanted was 2010 when Fox was an open lame duck.

To be fair, the expectation has always been 3. His 7 year contract has nothing to do with that number.

The 7 year part is a running joke from the Jay Z quote a few weeks ago.

And if Matt is right and the team figures it out in year 3, then awesome.

Bengals

2-14

4-12

10-7 and going to the AFCCG

BUT our coach Jay-Z and our owner thinks it takes a lifetime to build a winning team LOL

This is the worst example ever. LOL. The Bengals is exactly the point you don’t want to make to fire Rhule. They stayed with their boy and look what happened. Again, not sticking up for Rhule, but he said the 7 years it took Jay Z was an example of sticking with the process. Sheesh. This won’t age well if the Panthers make a big leap year 3 like the Bengals do. Yikes

They doubled their win total from year 1 to year 2 (with a tie as well) and lost their rookie franchise QB who showed tons of promise after he was injured in week 10.

That's progress and the argument to stick with Taylor made sense because the progress was evident.

Our progress is apparently there 1000%, we just can't see it.

10 wins against 4 in a division with Brady and Brees, absolutely different story. Just saying, sometimes riding with a guy for a few years is better than blowing it up every 2… only time will tell. Bengals is a poo example. If you don’t think so your Rhule hatred is clouding your inbred thought process.

You know the answer to your question

bottom line, Rhule was afraid   As I recall Hurney was in love with Justin Herbert.

Herbert wasnt there when we picked.  There isnt always a deal available.   The only qb we have passed on so far is Fields and so far hes definitely not looking like a qb that can carry a bad oline.  Trading/signing bad ones I will agree with.  Not taking good ones is unfair.

    • Sure, but if that happens, the draft pick will look even worse for the Falcons, as instead of getting them a player that could win now, they took someone who ran off their prize FA QB after 3 years and now looks like they may be a bust. Penix was one of the more polished QB's in the draft and would have probably been a rookie starter if taken by someone with an uncertain starting QB, if he's not ready to step in and play well in year 3, then it's probably not going to work out. So the only way it helps their contract situation, is if it doesn't work out as they plan, but if it does, they're going to cut Cousins after 2 years and then have to give Penix a monster deal the following offseason.
