It's being reported by the same source that says Harbaugh is joining the Vikings.

And truthfully, it's not that hard to believe. Plenty of NFL failures turn into college successes.

It could all be bull, we'll see.

Same source also hints they likely are to hire from within   So you hire from within.

then you get to brag about how the in-house guy was a better hire than Rhule and these other external guys you could of pursued but didn’t.

and again, the Penn St aspect on top of Rhule imploding in the NFL.  Just don’t see how that is realistic for Michigan.

Like I said, they don't necessarily see Rhule like we do.

If they think his success at Temple and Baylor translates to them, he could be their guy.

But again, it's all hypothetical. For now, Harbaugh is still their head coach.

Well my imaginary money is on Matt Rhule never getting a call.

then Matt Rhule leaks out how Rhule never wanted the job.

I’m on a bunch of Ohio State boards that are pretty plugged in to Michigan folks as well. Expectation is that they’ll hire internal (Josh Gattis most likely, slim chance of Mike Hart). But I wouldn’t rule out them checking out external candidates as well.

Makes sense. Promoting a guy on staff would help keep some recruits and transfers.

Yep. A big thing at Michigan has always been the idea of the “Michigan Man.” While that’s not as pervasive these days, they do really like the culture that was established this year and feel like the program is in a good place. Hiring someone like Gattis would be very similar to OSU/Ryan Day, OU/Lincoln Riley, and ND/Marcus Freeman. Gattis got a lot of run for HC jobs last year (Virginia Tech to name one) and won the Broyles as the top assistant in CFB. Although Harbaugh’s other coordinator, now ravens DC Mike MacDonald, deserved that award.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
