What are your thoughts of the "going all in" approach that the Rams took?

I think swinging for a QB is a good move (especially this year with our draft options). But Tepper is about to get a serious dose of reality when star QBs give his coach the stiff arm.

Lesson from Stafford is to hold out and wait for a contender. Don't go to a bad team. Don't let your old team trade you to a bad team. Play for teams that can get you a ring and that have coaches with experience winning in the pros.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I would have liked to see the Panthers trade several draft picks for Joe Thomas in 2015. We would have won the SB that year TBH. Doesn't help that with the power of hindsight, our drafts after the SB really sucked.

I think if you are close you trade those picks like Rams did with Von Miller. A rookie isn't helping you as much as him.

Except it wasn't our defense that lost us the superbowl.  It was the inability to stop the Broncos pass rush.

Big question is does Tepper believe that. If he trusts Rhule then he will give him free rein to get himself out of this mess of Rhule’s making by trading picks and players. If not he forces Rhule to run with Sam and make sure he doesn’t mortgage this team’s future in the process.

And that is the $140 million question...

The Athletic Football Show had J-Rodrique on and they discussed this is detail that it's much more nuanced than just going all in.

They managed to come away with a lot of contributors and still build a foundation through the past few drafts.  Kupp WR (arguably the league MVP this year IMO), Rapp S, Edwards (Their starting LG), Brian Allen (starting RG), Henderson RB, Van Jefferson WR, Akers RB, Terrell Lewis LB, Rochell CB, Skowronek WR.

Also, when you're landing all of these great free agents on shorter deals, you're getting comps.  6 of their 8 picks are comp this season.

This is not just an all-in approach.  It's an all hands on deck, let's build the best team we possibly canm approach because we have an awesome coaching staff and can lure them to LA.

My honest thoughts are that I worry a lot less about the process than I do about the people in charge.

Put smart people in place and let them do their jobs.

It really comes down to staff, personnel foundations and QB.  I personally feel you need the right staff first and foremost but if there's enough strong players/limiting the need for a roster blow up, then that's fine.

We picked a bad coach and let him blow up a team that didn't really need to be blown up.

Thsts why he suggested trading for Joe Thomas (in hindsight) might have helped neutralize that jackass von Miller.

We haven't valued the OL or shown much ability to help the OL for two coaches now.

It has been undervalued and we've shown no ability to judge personnel in our limited attempts to help it.

I'm hoping that we have taken steps to rectify this and that Rhule keeps his mouth shut and let's the grownups do their jobs. I don't see that happening. He can't keep from being who he is, a manipulative narcissistic micromanager.

In reality this team is a few years (at best) from the playoffs.  We need to chose the best player in the draft and sign productive young guys in free agency.  I doubt QB gets fixed this offseason even if we pick one in the draft unfortunately

Yep. Could very well be a wasted pick. If Rhule gets fired, new coach will probably want his guy in there taking advantage of a much better class.

    • yeah, Steve was basically like on any actual topic that approached his flaws/problems.....89 went with the long winded, try to sound like a wise man strategy of just basically just pleading the 5th (and sprinkling in the idea that others could of been wrong or wrong too).   also, in terms of the assaults and stuff like that....it feels like old 89, I feel has sort of forgotten his well-documented confessions and apologies about that aspect and era of his and was trying to re-write his story/image in hindsight.   And in all honesty, it seemed like a PR move on the twitter/cheating stuff also attempting to play himself as not the bad guy some think with the intentional vague suggestions. and the Pivot and all these athlete moves to basically take the reigns and power from traditional outlets exposes they have just as bad as flaws if not more often than the traditional media folks.  I mean I do like the free form long talk when dudes are telling stories but all this stuff is largely flawed and controlled PR often.
    • Sadly, I agree and I’m a huge Melo fan. Might be time to ship him out. Don’t want to make the same mistakes the Pels did. They should’ve gotten rid of Zion two years ago.
    • I forgot he was on the team and I'm pulling for him, but the statistics are not in his favor.  Some guys can recover from injuries and others cannot and let's hope Brooks is the former.  He was a beast in high school and college.
