Panthers scouts high on Malik Willis

I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted Willis.  Who knows how good he can be?  Lord knows he has the tools to be a high level NFL starter.  It's going to be a bumpy road for him in the first year or two.

But that depends on how we manage to address the OL in FA.  Can Brady C be a NFL LT?  Who will play guard?  Center?

For me, I'd be thrilled to draft a stud LT, trade down and draft more OL help, or even trade down and pick Willis in the late 1st.

Who knows.  This is prime smokescreen time.  Everyone has nothing but good things to say about everyone...

He's not a "poor man's Fields." Much higher ceiling. I think Fields can be a solid starter, but I don't think he's ever a real difference maker.

I was really against drafting Willis, but I am starting to come around to it. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders. The physical talent is great. He's got to learn how to make the "easy play" sometimes, but I think you have to swing for the fences if you're drafting a QB. I'd rather take a chance on being able to coach a guy to take the "easy play" rather than trying to squeeze more out of a guy than his physical talent allows.

Go back and watch Fields dismantle Clemson's defense in the playoffs and then honestly try to tell me Willis has a higher ceiling. Y'all musta forgot.

If you put Willis on OSU team, they would probably won the National Championship.

I hope this is true. I initially liked Pickett a bit but the more I've researched these QBs the only one I really care for this draft is Willis. Still don't want him in the top 10 though, prefer OL there. Trade down or trade a roster player to get another pick and take Willis mid/late 1st, then hell yeah.

    • I think the qualification has changed over time though. A deep ball play used to take 4 to 6 seconds for the receiver to get to that spot on the field. Now a receiver can be there in 2.5. That's less time than most QBs have to set and throw. In my mind a deep route takes time to develop. A crossing route and a deep route can't take the same amount of time at full speed. You can have 4 deep balls on the same drive,  almost 5 if you do 5 20 yard throws goal line to goal line. That doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud.
    • The sad part is it looks manicured enough that he's aware it's running away from him.  Also, I just wanted to give you some fun loving grief on King Haynes today having a chance to throw a game winning TD, and was wildly errant, and ultimately picked off to end the game.  So happy I won't have to hear anything else about The Golden Calf of Bristol lite ever again watching college football.
    • I just think Panthers believe in Bryce far more than the fans do and he is most likely going to be the QB at least the next two seasons. the real shot of us moving from Bryce is not getting an extension, till then they are going to give him every chance to succeed and I just want to win.
