"Everyone I've talked to, thinks and believes the Panthers will trade back"

The nfl is a passing league.  We are morons to try and run some antiquated system.  Take cross and the next coaching staff will be thrilled.

I don’t disagree with you but this coaching staff is more likely to pick Penning over Cross.

Why? No 2nd or 3rd this year…we’re gonna take one elite player and move on?

Honestly, I think that's exactly what we're planning to do. We drafted double last year to fill our depth. This year we've added a lot of FAs. We have around 73 players currently on the roster now I believe. We draft 1 player at 6 to be an immediate or soon to be starter if it's a QB and the rest can battle for a spot on the final roster. We don't need to draft a lot of players.

It's not an antiquated system. We saw it in the playoffs last season. IF MacAdoo does something similar to what the Giants ran then the passing game will be WC style with a lot of quick reads and shotgun. The power run game helps set that up and helps keep pressure in check as they must respect the run. It also sets up play action which is very effective. This is why I'm so big on Pickett. He is the only QB that I see in this draft who has the accuracy and quick release to make such an offense click.

Corral?

He has two years of 71% and 68%. Pickett never reached either of those statistics. Corral is the better QB.

I could see us trading back with the focus to lane lindenbaum 12-20. Then move BC LT, Bozeman center and TL at LG.

then looking at a qb like Howell, strong in the second.

This could be a solid plan for sure. If they think that BC is the future at LT then trading back for Linderbaum is a good plan.

Pittsburgh seems like this oft mentioned target but pick 20 is too far down for me; feel there's a top-10 to 12 that's the clear top tier this year.  Now if it's too rich for PIT to trade ahead of us, I can see another team wanting to ensure Willis, especially if they don't end up with Baker...Seattle who now sits at Pick 9.

Make it a simple trade--they can send us Pick 41 & a 2023 3rd Rounder to get their QB.

We then sit at 9, could still land Cross, Penning, Thibobaux, Walker, Jermain Johnson, Garret Wilson, hell it would make me stomach Pickett if he falls.

I think there just needs to be a team that wants Malik hard enough.  Could easily see Seattle and Pittsburgh fighting over it.  Maybe even NO or ATL but we can't work with them in the division, but we can ensure Malik goes elsewhere.

So then...

Pick 9: Penning or Charles Cross LT or Walker/Johnson DL or Kenny Pickett QB

Pick 41, R2: Kenyon Green/Raimann/Tyler Smith OL or Desmond Ridder/Sam Howell/Carson Strong QB

Round 4-7: More Linemen

It opens things up but we still land a top player.  Just wouldn't want to fall too far in the first.  Need the potential all-pro type and I don't see a ton of them outside the top-1st

Ain't nobody trading up to T10 for a QB this year, bud

I realize that you have insider information and are probably not at liberty to say, because anyone who calls others "bud" must have sources.  A Pittsburgh mock has them trading up to #5.  While they obviously lack your knowledge, you must understand that there are those less intelligent than you who might think otherwise.  Let them have a moment.

FUN FACT:  Did you notice in my first sentence I worked in "at liberty"?  They are going to move up for Willis.  That was a clever hint only you would detect.

It would be a long reach, and they have Trubiski--so I dunno.  I hear Tomlin LOVES Willis--maybe they were hoping he'd drop to them--but that is highly unlikely.  If the really want him--they gotta call the Giants (if he passes the Lions and Texans )

I would be completely fine with that plan if we had a QB. If Darnold had worked out and we’re still trying to fill LT the yeah…sit tight, take the best tackle and keep moving.

But we have a legit hole at QB and doing nothing to try and solve that glaring hole with a player like Howell, Corral, Ridder is BS. I firmly believe that Howell or Corral would be the best QB on the roster come training camp and both seem to be trending mid-late first round or maybe second round. You have to do something to try and get another pick in that range while still solving your OL problem.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
