Forbes valued the net worth of Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper at $11 billion when he purchased the team for an NFL record $2.275 billion in 2018. Four seasons later, none with a winning record, the magazine says Tepper has a net worth of $16.7 billion. The Panthers now are valued at an estimated $2.91 billion.

Carolina Panthers’ David Tepper is one of the world’s 10 richest sports team owners

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper doesn’t speak much publicly, but his money sure is loud.

Forbes magazine released its annual ranking of the world’s richest sports team owners Tuesday. Tepper, 64, who also owns Charlotte FC and has a net worth of $16.7 billion, came in at No. 8 on the list. Despite rampant inflation and a volatile market, Tepper’s worth has increased by nearly $1 billion from year year, an improvement of 15 percent.

He is still the NFL’s richest owner, worth $6 billion more than the league’s second-wealthiest owner, Stanley Kroenke. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is the third richest owner ($10.6 billion), followed by Patriots owner Robert Kraft ($8.3 billion).

The Panthers have not had a winning season under Tepper, who bought the team in 2018 from Jerry Richardson for $2.275 billion. But NFL teams make money regardless of record. Carolina is worth an estimated $2.91 billion, $600 million more than what Tepper bought the Panthers for.

Tepper is the fourth wealthiest American sports owner. Steve Ballmer (Los Angeles Clippers), Dan Gilbert (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Steve Cohen (New York Mets) all rank above Tepper. Due to his stake in Microsoft, Ballmer is the world’s richest owner with a net worth of $91.4 billion.

Tepper jumped Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera after his wealth decreased by nearly 20% this year. Of Forbes’ 400 richest people in the world, Tepper ranks 103rd.

I doubt anyone should be surprised. The NFL viewership has been up at a record pace all through the playoffs and Super Bowl. Despite the theatrics from time to time about morality this country obviously loves to watch the sport. So yes Tepper is certainly going to see returns on his investment. Give it time and he will be asking the city for a new stadium 💰

Yea.... but inflation is a thing. Just because the amount goes up doesnt mean that its worth the same. Have you tried to buy a car? Or a sandwich? A lot of people are making more money... but the cost of things is higher.

Numbers do lie.

Numbers never lie, you can make them say what you want them to.

    • yeah, I can get a little of that.  But that's not what he is posting in his argument just now though.   He said people wouldn't even concede to the literal ability to do it when pressed on the literal ability.  I have never seen that.  He maintains it exists somewhere.  I mean, using anomaly games to make arguments about players just isn't the way.   There wasn't a defender within 10 yards of our guys on 2 of those 3 throws Sunday.  No one within 5 on the 3rd.   That's not Bryce Young answering questions about his play downfield..  That's Bryce Young taking advantage of coverage busts by a bad D.  Which hey, that's part of the game too.  Recognition and seeing the field.   It can't totally be dismissed.   That's still good play.  You want your QBs to make those plays.  But it's not getting into the long standing critique of BY IMO.
    • Deserved, I wouldn’t use that word. Asked for? For sure. Am I upset over it? No.  People forget that AT was throwing his helmet in frustration last season over his QB’s ineptitude. The same QB was pretty inept to start this year, no guarantee AT would have helped him in those games any more than he did last year.  Just sayin.  And Dan doing him a solid probably did not go unnoticed by players around the league. I think it increases his rep with potential FAs. It sure can’t hurt it.
    • You think that was the fault of the guy that was lighting it up or maybe the bums around him? Funnily enough, those bums are still being bums in his absence. Who would have thought!
