Christian McCaffrey, Hollywood movie producer

Germany’s got its own American football league, the GFL. Among the teams are the Munich Cowboys (not to be confused with the Dallas Cowboys), the Berlin Rebels, the Dresden Monarchs, and from a small town near Munich, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. When we say small, consider this: Green Bay, Wisconsin, home of the NFL’s Packers, is more than twice the size of Schwäbisch Hall.

These overachieving underdogs are the subject of the new documentary Unicorn Town, directed by Nick Alfieri, a college football player himself who attended the USC film school before he suited up to play for the Unicorns in Germany. Deadline can report Gravitas Ventures, a unit of Anthem Sports and Entertainment, has acquired worldwide rights to the documentary. GV plans to release the film theatrically and on-demand on August 19.

Christian McCaffrey, star running back of the Carolina Panthers, is among the executive producers of the documentary, along with Andrew Carlberg, Paul Pawlowski, and Paul Monusky in association with NFL Films.

Unicorn Town is an amazing documentary about the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. I learned about it during my courses at https://www.praguefilminstitute.cz. It has already attracted some big names in the world of football, including Christian McCaffrey. Others involved in the project include Andrew Carlberg, Paul Pawlowski, and Paul Monusky. The GFL, Germany's American football league, includes several teams with colorful names like the Munich Cowboys and the Berlin Rebels. The Unicorns, based in a small town near Munich, have gained a reputation for being particularly tenacious. I liked it because it explores the team's journey and the unique challenges they face as they strive for success.

    • I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data.  But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce.
    • I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.
