I'd want to know details before I say something like that.

Honestly, we know enough. From NFL.com:

Reports of angst between Mills and the defensive line surfaced this offseason after the group underperformed in 2021. But Rivera noted that the decision to fire Mills stemmed from more recent philosophical differences.

"It's about this offseason and training camp," Rivera said.

His firing probably stems from underperformance, and Rivera didn't like the way things were progressing during the offseason and camp. It sounds like it was a long time coming. Rivera was reticent to just fire his friend so easily, so he gave him a chance, but things didn't work out.

Rivera needed to go.  Sometimes messages become stale and a change of scenery is necessary.  Getting rid of Ron wasn’t the problem, we just replaced him with a trash heap

Yep he totally ruined McCaffrey's career with his terrible decision making.

That's still only a base level explanation.

I'd like to know more.

This is very valid but 99.9% of the fans here wanted Rivera gone. Be careful what you wish for as they say.

Nothing Valid about that, Rhule should have been fired after year 2, just like the situation we are in now.

He fuged around and won a CoTY in year 3, which really didnt have poo to do with his coaching.

We then had him as a HC for 9 years, which was 7 too many.

We would have been so much better off with a HC that would have developed Cam instead of just ramming him into a brick wall over and over until he broke.

fug Rivera.

Rhule is terrible, but "coach of the year" is nothing special.

Take a look at the last twenty or so winners of that particular award and you'll see why.

I would say that the two seasons where he won the award were special seasons as one being where he gained his foot hold and the other was just dominant! And you have to come off of that curmudgeonly attitude bruv. Coach of the year definitely is nothing to sneeze at. The list is pretty solid outside of the pair of Bears' coaches Jauron and Nagy. I will give you those two, especially Nagy, oh yeah and Jason Garrett. If we are talking shite coaches, you always have a point with Jason Garrett.

Coach of the Year tends to go to guys who outperform expectations, but outside of the times when it's been awarded to Bill Belichick it rarely goes to a coach who wins a championship.

As to Rivera, both he and John Fox produced decent seasons, but neither produced consistency.

The truly great coaches don't just flash once in a while. They win on a regular basis.

I see that, but also the man's QB got hurt. We were 6-2 until Cam got hurt second to last year, then the next year they won five games in a row with Kyle Allen. I feel like Tepper wanted his guy so bad he just quickly ushered in the next era of suck.

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
