Baker had a perfect QB rating in the 4th quarter

From the last 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter on these were out offensive drives:

TD

Half

3 and out punt (Drive Icky got his lunch eaten back to back plays)

TD

TD

FG with 77 seconds left in the game to take the lead.

End of Game

Once we got into a groove and got the rust/nerves whatever shaken off the offense was cooking. I saw plenty of reason to be optimistic about the offense moving forward.

The Defense? Not so much.

My point is that even the worst qb can have one good quarter of football at some point. It's the other 3 that's the issue.

It wasn’t even 3 quarters that were bad for Baker yesterday. More like the first quarter and first possession of the 2nd. He got progressively better as the game went on. He hardly played at all with the first string and it showed. Hopefully he, and the rest of the offense build on how they played to close out the game. Even with all the terrible play on both sides, it took a walk off 60 yard FG to beat us.

Thats because their qb missed a ton of open throws.  It probably should have been a 3 score game in the 2nd qt.   I doubt we see that much qb incompetence as we move into the meat of our schedule.

Mayfield bucked our trend of starting out well and then declining to zero the rest of the game.

They might have helped his bad start had they actually run the effing football some.  The guy does well with play action, so we decide to not do what the play action forces the defense to respect that you might do.

Not sure why more Huddlers are overlooking this point. It may have taken the O a little while to get cooking. But, once they got it together, they were pretty good/

This should give people a much-needed boost. If the O can keep this up? We may wind up in good shape.

The skinny of the situation is this.. baker played like poo and still did what he had to do to win the game. Burrow threw 4 picks, rodgers didnt do poo. Tom brady won but his stats werent that amazing. Kyler murray looks like garbo, Dak was hot trash, stafford was horrible. Outside of burrow Baker is the only qb that had a bad game and still gained the lead on a good defense. You should probably focus on fixing the rest of the team before having a qb carousel because you could have swapped out almost any qb with baker and the results probably would have been the same. Outside of maybe lamar because he can run for his life every play...

He missed open throws and our new OL missed blocks it's all part of the game.  The "should have" recap is pretty meaningless.  Gameplans usually change throughout the game based on what has happened so to go back and say something should have happened earlier in the game and assume everything else stays the same is meaningless.

He got in rhythm in the 4 quarter when the game was on the line and was pretty near perfect.  We all knew there was going to be some rust with a new scheme, getting traded late, and Rhule playing musical OL while having a QB competition.  I've seen plenty of great QBs play sloppy early, but come alive late in a game.  He got us the lead with just over a minute left.  Rhule wanted the FG instead of trying for the TD and our defense couldn't get one stop in the last minute.  When was the last time we had a QB play this well in the 4th?  It's something to build on for sure.

    • Putting the game in his hands again vs doing the run first approach still makes me think they are both have not given up the dream. Just like brining back Dalton and avoiding anything that could come close to competition did.  If they had given up on that dream I wouldn't be so agaisnt them both but they did what they did and as far as I can tell thst train is still on the tracks to nowhere.
    • Next years QB room needs to be a shotgun blast Reclamation project (Lance is my choice) + vet (Geno or Mariota) + draft pick. Let them duke it out all year
    • It is crazy but they obviously still want it. It's why they were hired and it's what this entire build is about. The fact they had the Falcons game and then went out and put it in his hands once again vs running the damn ball and trying to squeeze another win out proves it again. I don't like it but that's what this is no matter how hard fans twist details into some kind of sanity.  I have been against this from before the pick and would love to end it this year just like the two years before. Im just not going to lie to myself about it. There is zero real signs that Tepper is off of the Bryce train either...even if there should be by now. I hope we are right and the remander of the schedule doesn't play with their food like GB did. Otherwise next year is going to look a lot like this year but the odds they pick up thst 5th are bad that they make the right or good choice. They obviously want it and I just don't see 2 yes men walking Tepper off of his mistake without a deflated end to this season. Any bright spot for them to get twisted will result in more of the same IMO. I will belive it when they say they aren't picking him up otherwise Im just expecting it unfortunately
