He is an edge rusher so he should be used that way. What is being done to him and Chinn is unacceptable.

Snow is a joke in the NFL.

I’d really like for us to draft/sign a true free safety with range, and use Chinn as an in box SS or just a flat out linebacker.

His nose for the ball and natural instinct are perfect for that role. We were basically gifted a new defensive tone setter with Chinn right after Luke retired and all they have done is neutered him.

I have no idea why he is at FS for us still. When he was roaming spots as a rookie he basically was a LBer or SS with some CB thrown in. Now he is just avoidable for the most part. 6 tackles per game this year just seems like a waste. Every day I dislike Snow's scheme more and more. It's like Burns dropping back in pass protect. GTFOH with that BS.

Where was the defense ranked last season.  I don't think defense seems to be the problem.  The fact that we cannot score any points is the problem.

That depends entirely upon which metric you judge by.

The Panthers would like you to believe they had the #2 defense in the league last year, because according to yards given up, they were that.

In the measure that actually translates into wins - scoring defense - we were 20th.

Figure out which number best suits you.

In all fairness, you'd expect to win games where you give up less than 20 points.

Yep, but yet we lose any game where the other team scores more than 19.  In today's NFL where everything is geared in favor of the offense, you need to put points on the board, bottom line. The defense is the only reason we were in any of the games this year and last.  Last week they were on the field for 41 minutes.  No defense can be expected to keep it up at that rate.  I would be curious how much time they spent on the field on the average last year.

    • Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.  It is just as likely to multiply them.
    • When has it not?     Also, when these starters play physical defense and turn that into transition offense, this team is downright scary.     that felt weird to type.
