Not really, but I get there's a bias toward younger guys these days because everyone wants to find the next McVay. Unfortunately, you're just as likely to find the next Joe Brady.

Ryans only has about five years of coaching experience. Dorsey, Johnson, Callahan and LaFleur, while they're all relatively young, all have at least ten.

Can you name a coach if advanced age who was hired as a head coach for the first late in his career who won a superbowl? I really can’t think of any.

I like Ryans because we already have talent on that side of the ball and our offense is a mess. I'm not saying Dorsey'll burn out here/in the nf but we don't have an Allen/Diggs combo or anything close to it. Moore could maybe be our Davis but even then, there's far more room for poo to go wrong. 

Aren't there any promising OCs or he could poach off of the 49ers talented offensive staff or smth?

Pretty sure the oldest recent hire was Frank Reich, who looked pretty good before the Colts traded for Wentz, then Ryan.

Id be extremely careful throwing this out there. Brady with some experience up in Buffalo could be a promising candidate for an OC job in the future. 
 

Id imagine anyone with half a brain in the nfl circles are gonna look at what a train wreck Rhule is and not completely hold it against him.

He may be, but he wasn't ready to be an OC when we hired him.

A lot of this year's candidates (Ryan's included) are first year coordinators. I'm not a fan of going that route.

That’s not a ringing endorsement to hire an old coach. Young guys want to prove themselves for better or worse. Old guys don’t have that same motivation. It’s why I think QBs like Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson are playing like garbage. They have fat ass contracts and previous success to hang their hats on. No motivation to win. I think a coach like Ryans who learned under Kyle Shanahan (a coach with a burgeoning coaching tree) would be a great idea. That means the Panthers definitely won’t do it.

I want a guy who's got at least ten years experience, preferably with more than one as a coordinator.

The first part isn't that hard to find right now, but the second is.

I'm kinda on the Dan Quinn bandwagon at the moment.

That Dallas defense is legit and his players love him, and we badly need someone with legit NFL HC experience next, this team needs someone like that.

Bring Quinn in with the mandate that he has to find a young, innovative OC and turn the offense completely over to them, none of this 3 yards and a cloud of dust crap that many defensive minded HC's like to run.

      2026 World Cup Thread

      Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.

      Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.

      Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
