Tanking does not guarantee a good QB

Just play for the wins.

I hate the concept of tanking. Loosing on purpose is some cowardly BS.

That being said...the easy part of our season is over, our secondary is banged up, and our starting QB is the guy everyone assumed was a camp body before the 3 people ahead of him got broken. We may not have to tank ON PURPOSE, it may just happen organically.

People love to point that out but it’s an incomplete statement.

You are correct that a top-10 QB doesn’t guarantee they will be good but the chance of an early QB being better is higher than the later ones.

Maybe the top-10 ones only work out 20% but if they later ones only work out 5% that is 4 times more likely.

This sums it up perfectly. If we want to draft our next franchise QBs taking one in the first round is shown to have the highest success rate and it’s not even close.

You got any actual numbers on that for the last 5-10 years? Not arguing just curious. Lamar, Carr, Hurts, Cousins, probably a couple more that may not be the most ideal guys but haven't had much competition as far as losing their jobs. Those are basically 2nd round or later guys

Most Top 10 busts are because HCs got caught up in the hype of a player. Bryce Young is a perfect example of that. At 6' he's going to have to be dang good to overcome his height in the NFL.

Yes it scares me but you can be a successful Qb in the NFL and be short, just look at Brees and Wilson both top QBs in their prime.

From an organizational standpoint, purposefully losing games is a great way to instill a losing culture and make your team undesirable to coaches and players. I don’t think purposefully losing should never be considered a reasonable plan.

With that said, there is a middle ground between losing on purpose and sacrificing your future to win meaningless games. Once your chances of the playoffs are essentially over, the best thing to do imo is to put in some younger players to develop them and see what you have going into the offseason while still actually trying to win games

Wtf is wrong in this place. It’s like our franchises greatest player wasn’t selected #1.

How often does that happen?  Luck, Goff, Baker, Murray since then. Before Cam it was Sam Bradford I think lol. Easily just as many successful QB's teams picked up without tanking for the number 1 spot

That's two people out of many. Yes they had the skill to overcome their size but that's only two people who did. Most end up like Mayfield and Manziel.

Burrow looks the part. Stafford has shown he can with the right coach/staff.  Luck was solid, Lawrence is looking the part this year with a decent coach.

It takes being in position to take the guy you want.  That's all that matters.  You don't want to feel like a guy fell into your lap or you're settling.  You're in position, and get the guy you want.

Brady is an outlier so with that in mind, just look at the final 4 QBs in recent years...don't even know what this means, if anything shows coaching matters just as much, but it's a lot of high end R1 QBs:

2021: Mahomes (R1), Burrow (1 Overall), Stafford (1 Overall), Jimmy G (R2)

2020: Rodgers (R1), Brady, Allen (R1), Mahomes (R1)

2019: Tannehill (R1), Mahomes (R1), Rodgers (R1), Jimmy G (R2)

2018: Goff (1 Overall), Brees (R2), Brady, Mahomes (R1)

2017: Bortles (R1), Brady, Cousins (R4), Wentz/Foles (R1/2)

2016: Rodgers (R1), Ryan (R1), Ben (R1), Brady

2015: Palmer (R1), Cam (1 Overall), Peyton (1 Overall), Brady

2014: Luck (1 Overall), Brady, Rodgers (R1), Russ (R3)

Can't wait until Brady retires...jeeez

    • I swear, I don’t watch hardly any college ball and hadn’t watched him. When I went to the videos I swear it took me 10 minutes. If that, to see the future with him.
    • That's only one of the posts you've made trashing DB my guy. At least half your posts since the season started all revolve around complaining about others opinions and complaining about the huddle and every single time it is about Bryce Young criticism. If you're going to go well out of your way to bash cornerstone players and leaders like Derrick Brown while not offering the same scathing criticism for the guy who had THREE turnovers in that same Jaguars loss then you are fully a clown who deserves to be ridiculed into oblivion.
    • I honestly don’t know. I think he can be a good QB. At the very least he deserves a real chance with some actual WR’s and a TE worth a damn  Our TE room is straight ass. Our pass blocking his rookie year and this year has been ass. He’s never had more than 1 reliable target on the field with him at a time.  And some f’n how he’s we’re 9-8 since he’s come back from the benching. This team is starting to win and he’s part of that. His ability to extend plays and maneuver around in the pocket is overlooked I haven’t made a decision on 5th year option but if the option is 30 and the franchise tag is 40… I may roll the dice and see what year 4 has in store. However let’s see how we finish this year first
