REPORT: Burns practically a "lock" to be traded before the deadline

To be honest, it makes a lot of sense.  We don't really have the room for him and he's going to want quite a contract.  It puts us in position to trade him to a place that can instantly sign him long term.

Top pass rushers garner a lot of value---what do you feel would be the destination and comp?

Me:

Baltimore for a minimum 2023 1st, 4th, 2024 2nd

Well, this would be really dumb. Which means it's something the Panthers are highly likely to do.

It almost needs to happen or he can just refuse a re-sign and go elsewhere.  We aren't going to be able to offer what other clubs can. And it hinges on him wanting to come back and negotiate an extension.

And his new contract with us would hinder the cap an incredible amount.  It's a tough spot.  Is he worth a superstar contract to make things even tighter? Or should we get max value?

So this guy is a notrious BSer, check his previous tweets. He has no sources, he just spews poo and sees what sticks.

That said I can see us trading Burns because DEs are expensive. I wouldn't agree with it but I can see it.

Yep, I didn't realize this dude was a bad track record.  Certaintly gets a discussion started though haha

I'd love him to stay by all means, but I could see why we would get what we can for him right now.

Unless he's made it clear that he doesn't want to be here. Might as well get something for him.

Exactly.  We didn't negotiate a new contract last year, just picked up his 5th year, and there's been no news on a new one.  I'd prefer not to ride him out and then have a Peppers situation again.

ultimately and ideally you’d like the next coach to decide what to do with Burns. the next best thing is to offer said coach draft picks at the least. Not sure if a huge contract is doable in trying to rebuild - rebuilding the right way takes a lot of capital

worst thing is he walks and we get nothing which is the Panther way

its really unfortunate they paid Anderson and Thomas

more stupid financial moves holding the team back what’s new

Trading Brian Burns would be the stupidest move we could make…he is clearly our best defender by a large margin

Well some of it could relate more to what 89 talked about.  He said 2 weeks ago is when he would have demanded out of Charlotte.

so we likely have guys that want no part of a long rebuild.  There window is now.

And who more convenient to ask than the young, versatile, sack specialist 1st rounder with his contract at an end.  The facts alone are probably why this dolt made the tweet.

If there is anyone that has an out, in their control, for wherever they want, it's Burns.  We can control that destiny and get value for it up to the trade deadline.

If Jamal Adams as a safety can get 2 firsts a 3rd and a player why can’t Burns get the same?

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
