If we traded Burns

if you tear it all down though the rebuild takes longer. a pass rusher and number 1 WR are part of the formula for a winning franchise. with Burns and Moore gone that is two more pieces we would have to replace likely with premium picks.  picks we can use instead on other missing parts like QB, the other DE, and linebackers. moving CMC made sense because of injury concerns and that a committee of non premium picks can produce alongside Foreman.  we will be greatly improved after this next draft if we hit on our picks. leaving this draft with either Young, Stround, or Anderson in the first will help nearly immediately.  Hooker/Anderson or Young/ Gibbs makes us more dangerous.

That didn't include trading DJ. That was Burns only with the picks acquired for CmC.

Of course. There is a business side to the sport as well.

One thing I would point out, there are certain positions that are considered premium. LT, QB and pass rush. Those are need-to-haves. WR and CB right behind.

So either we pay the man market value, or we play the market and see what we can draft. Either way it's going to be an expenditure because pass rush is not a luxury.

I completely understand looking at the trade and thinking why didn't we take it. Maybe it was the wrong decision. At the end of the day though something will have to be spent on the spot, either picks or dollars, since it's a must-have.

Or pick up someone like Reddick with similar numbers for half the price and use the picks on something else.

We could also sign a free agent DE for less then what we will have pay Burns and probably get similar performance.  Use the picks on whatever.

a decent young pass rusher is always making bank in FA.  we have one. Miami traded for one then promptly paid him. Young pass rushers rarely even hit the market.  I know a bunch of people don't think much of Burns but he is the best we got.

This is pretty true. Most of the time the market for pass rush is either guys getting a little closer to past their primes and might want to chase a championship, or guys that have been good but not great. Since it is a premium position, it kind of makes you wonder why a younger player is even on the FA list. But it is an option to putting together a team.

It’s not that people don’t think highly of Burns, it’s the value the Rams were willing to pay for him on a team that really doesn’t have anything to play for right now

Have you not watched the Rams play this year? They’re old and slow. No o-line. Defense has regressed. NFL changes on a yearly basis. Their 2024 2025 picks will be better than you might expect.

its possible. But they could be a lot like what Gross matos is.. what they got for those 1st was players who got them a super bowl. they do need youth and im not saying they building a team the right way. But they were in win now mode.. it is warranted.

Tired of people slobbing down Fitts knob.

The dude is fuging garbage, he only has the GM job here because no real Gm was going to be Rhules yes man.

We need to clean house completely, we dont need any holdovers.

Burns should have been gone for 2 1st and a 2nd. He is a pass rusher only and isnt very good at that, the dude has never had double digit sacks.

I get he does a cool spider man celebration and you guys eat that poo up, but hes still just a pass rush specialist.

Why would Fitt care about picks he might never make? And who is to say either of those picks turn out as good as Burns, knowing our history they end up jags

Burns isnt too much more than a JAG, he cant stop the run to save his life and gets around 8-9 sacks a year, just a tick over average.

False. We WERE offered a 2023 2nd rounder.

I had not heard they added a 2023 second-round pick to the offer.  That changes my opinion quite a bit, since my first reaction was the offer was close, but we needed something like a third rounder in 2023 added to the deal.

I'm not a bURnS SukcS guy.  Maybe the new staff will use him in a role and scheme that makes him shine.  But if so, having a second in 2023, and additional firsts in 2024 and 2025 would allow them to find what they need without having to break the bank to keep BB.

Again, I like BB in the right scheme.  But for what the Rams put on the table, that changes things.  They offered us a haul of draft picks for a guy who is going to want a haul of money on his next contract.  And given the state of the Rams, I think the 2023 pick will be no better than the middle of the second round, and that will be as far down as the picks slide through the 2025 first. 2024 and 2025 could easily be top ten picks both years.

Yeah that 2023 2nd moved the needle for me as well.  We would have 3 second round picks this year plus those two future 1sts.  Our goal is to find a QB over everything else.  That kind of draft capital can help up move up in the draft/drafts as needed to get our guy.  We are cap strapped this year and having 3 2nds plus our 1st and the Niners 3rd could really help us add some pieces for cheap as well...
