Which makes more sense in the face of an embarrassing blowout?  Feeling optimistic about having a pretty good young pass rusher who is in his 4th year, having contributed to a 17-41 record since joining the team?  Or feeling optimistic about having a stockpile of 1st and 2nd round picks over the next three seasons?  Which one bodes well for future prospects, relatively speaking?  There's a reason why fans every year look ahead to the draft in the midst of a failed season.  Good drafting is the most effective way to turn a franchise around.

Once in a lifetime? That may be going a little far. Especially firsts that we do not know will be late or mid but there's a very slim chance they would be top ten. Burns will be just getting ready to turn 25 around the time of the draft he will still have value. I'm frustrated with the way this has all gone too but there's no need to be looking over a ledge right now. Only the delusional optimists who also thought Sam Darnold would just suddenly become a franchise QB here or that PJ Walker was a starting QB are shocked by all this. If we get a top 3 pick or even the top pick I'll feel better. But I still don't have a great deal of faith in our GM overall we are basically in the position of asking ourselves how much of the good/bad was him versus Rhule. We just don't know. Plus Dave Tepper is still our owner and he's still going to meddle regardless. For the moment that's why I'm not losing too much sleep over those firsts for now.

I agree with you but those picks are only gold if we believe in the decision makers. Even if it's not Fitterer it will be someone chosen by David Tepper who thought tasty meatballs and being a former short order cook were legit qualifications to pay a guy 60+ million and give the keys to the franchise.

Even if we were talking about Sam Darnold or Robbie, the hate would not be any higher because the organization whiffed on a trade offer.  Now the hatred for people in organization may go up, but that would be expected.

Well, you know how people think:  they have to have one person to blame. 

That's one reason why bureaucracies exist, to make it impossible to find out who is responsible for a decision. 

But, yeah, it is hard to buy into Fitterer sitting at his desk deciding to not take the Rams offer on his own.  At some point someone has to make the final call, but if that person routinely talks to three others on all similar matters and those three all said it was a lousy idea, even if the person with that responsibility thought it was a fine idea, it is doubtful they would forge ahead on their own. 

Especially when one of those three who disagreed with their assessment signs their paychecks.

Burns is a pass specialist and not a complete NFL DE. He is a very good pass specialist. He was overrated in the draft coming out of college. At this point in his career, he does not appear to be getting any better against the run with his fundamentals. He is a playmaker for a championship team, but he is not a championship leader/captain.

He has been pushed into roles as leader, run defense/containment and pass coverage. He is weak at these areas. He is best served as a pass specialist, playmaker, and role player. He is similar to Von Miller, but Von Miller at this late stage of his career is still better than Brian Burns.

This is NOT hate. Burns has weaknesses and I believe a good coach would be honest about that to create a championship team. Burns, like CMC, are key pieces to a championship team imo, they are just not the foundational pieces you should build an offense or defense around.

That list of draft picks over 2023-25 would be as good as anything. Better than money, when the money is equal.
