Who should we be looking at outside the "top 4" QB candidates?

Michael Penix Jr. threw for 485 yards and had five total touchdowns in a 51-33 win over WSU

I know he has an injury history, but I feel he is getting over looked. Plenty of TDs and leads the league in passing yards. Washington could finish in the top 10…

99.9% sure Richardson returns to school.  Stroud may as well considering he's looking at us or Houston as his potential teams (*cough* Andrew Luck *cough*) and OSU is 0-2 versus Michigan while he's been there.  If it's Young and Levis whereby Houston takes Young #1, TRADE DOWN!  We need more picks anyway.

He has had a couple of torn ACL's but has come back from them nicely. I think Thomas Davis had 3 in his young career and never looked back so it's possible he can stay healthy from here on out. I stayed up late to watch the game last night (this morning) to watch him and Cam Ward play. Penix has great touch on the ball and reminds me a little of Warren Moon.

No way Stroud returns as he is a top 5 lock. Richardson has had a couple injury scares already. If he is a 1st round lock then he probably goes. Next year he will be battling Maye, Williams, McCarthy, and whoever else might have a Pickett or Burrow season.

Jaylen Daniels

Penix is a toss up, want to see how he keeps it up through the season but he's on track.

Those 3 are quality guys with great upside, and most importantly NFL level arms which for some reason gets lost on a lot of people when that's most critical at the end of the day.  Daniels is the one to watch IMO.

I want to love Ward.  But I think he should stay another year.  He's young and has mad potential.

The rest are a bit of toss-ups/developmental.  I get why people may like some like Rogers, J Hall, etc. but they're a bit of stretches.

The most important thing is actually NFL level ability to read the field and the ability to digest new schemes and offenses.

The NFL arm can put you into an elite class but not without that "NFL brain" to go with it.

I have a co-worker that's a HUGE, HUGE Gators fan and he says Richardson has been saying behind the scenes he's probably returning next year, though obviously nothing official yet.

Probably correct about Stroud, but if it comes down to us and the Texans as landing spots, that very well could change his mind.  He's a RSO, so there's no urgency there besides money.  Again, it's happened to us before.  EVERYONE thought Luck was coming out that year and when it came down to it, he opted to return to school.  While Andrew sugar-coated it, everyone knew why.  I bet if you could ask Trevor Lawrence if he should have stayed instead of going to the Jags. I bet he has some serious second thoughts.

Stroud probably does declare, but I don't think it's a slam dunk decision as you make it seem.

    • It is hard to win in the NFL. I’m never going to put an * next to a Dub.
    • We had a very favorable matchup our o-line manhandles theirs. Even Etienne looked like he would have had a great game on his limited rushing opportunities.
    • I think that's part of the problem, he's spreading the ball around too much, many of them are the first read play calls, and on top of that, a large portion of them are purposefully called screens or other short passes. I just looked, the Cardinals are the only other team in the league right now without at least 3 players with 100+ yards receiving so far this year, with the majority of teams having 4 or more.  And even then, their #2 right now is McBride with over 200 yards. Our 2nd leading receiver this year has 108 yards (albeit with 4 more players with 82 or more). On the surface, that might not be as alarming as you might think, but when you add into it that Bryce is currently 6th in the league in pass attempts, and it's even more alarming that he hasn't gotten a 3rd player to 100 yards so far and his second highest is only 108. XL has 39 yards on 18 targets.  Renfrow has 82 yards on 24 targets.  Tremble has 87 on 16 targets.  Sanders has 92 on 14 targets. None of those are good enough, so why aren't we calling more plays with T-Mac as the first read and forcing the ball to him (and again, that's not me wanting my guy to get more targets, that's me wanting more targets for the only productive pass catcher so far this year, I'd feel the same no matter what that player's name was). All of this is why I have issues with Canales' play calling.  How do you have a player who had 73 yards in the first half and then you only give him 1 target in the 2nd half despite playing from behind the majority of that time? You can be happy about the win, happy about Dowdle getting 200 yards, but in a game where your QB threw it 30 times, I can't accept the above sentence in the same breath, that's just terrible play calling, which is on top of the already predictable play calling in general, which is also on top of boring play designs as well. Add it all up, and THAT is why I'm unhappy even after a win, not because "my guy" didn't have a bigger game.
