He asked "how is the search going?" He didn't ask about Johnson, Tepper himself volunteered that information. You are being naive here. Tepper is about as simple minded as they come. He probably decided he wanted Johnson two months ago beacuse he's attracted to shiny objects. Again, nothing against the guy and I hope he does great but I just see a lot of parallels to the "process" we went through with Rhule and we all know how that worked out.

Tepper is simple minded yeah I find that hard to believe

He fell hard for Matt Rhule like a 30-year-old virgin at a sorority party then proceeded to give him a contract that was about double the length and pay of what he should have received as an unproven college coach. His reasoning: Rhule sweats a lot and dresses like me and he used to be a fry cook.  Seems pretty well thought out to me.

Out of all the HC candidates which ones seem more likely to “play to win” not “play to not lose”?

Wilks is just fox and Rivera all over again. I’ll take an aggressive offense over the status quo .500

Nobody but the Panthers is considering Wilks for any coaching opening. He’s mediocre and average at best. I know that’s kind of our thing around here, but it would be extremely refreshing to get away from conservative, defensive coaching.  Offense or bust. Johnson is my favorite but there’s a number of guys I’d be fine with.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
