But we didn't use a top ten pick to get him.

This notion that you can just take a guy with good physical characteristics and teach him how to play quarterback at the pro level has blown up in more than one team's faces.

Sure but Willis was a short multi year starter at a low tier school that struggled with a ton of things QBs do like working a pocket. Just because he had hype by draft Twitter doesn’t mean the NFL felt that way and they proved it with where they took him.

Richardson while raw both Physically and Film wise is much much different than Willis and it’s a lazy comp. Examples of Raw QBs with elite physical traits going in the top 10 is pretty low with like Allen and Lance being the two to draw from probably in recent years, it’s pretty rare an nfl team will throw a top 10 pick ONLY due to upside with QBs.

NFL teams waited till the 3rd for Willis for a reason and with the Titans investment it’s not going to set them back very far.  I’m very curious where they take Richardson think that’ll tell us a lot more about his skillset. I don’t necessarily want him but taking a flyer on athleticism in the third is a way different story than top 10.

And basically do the same thing to him that the Panthers did to Newton.

Mahomes and Rodgers were both backups for a year (or more) while refining their abilities, prior to being awarded their starting positions.

Mohomes recently credited Alex Smith with shortening his learning curve, saying what he learned in three months w/Alex's help might have taken him up to three years to learn on his own.

Having time to sit and absorb information without the unrelenting pressure of being a starting NFL QB is invaluable.  Even for the most talented rookie QBs.

Willis was also projected to be a top ten pick prior to the draft.

Exactly, the NFL will tell us most of what we need to know with Richardson based on where he goes in the actual draft. If an NFL team is actually investing a top 10 pick into him its an apples and oranges comparison to Willis.

I have been banging the Hooker drum for weeks, so I am a bit biased.

I believe so-called draft experts have him ranked much lower than scouts/ GMs. There's no way he gets out of the second round, and I wouldn't be surprised if a team traded up into the late first to grab him (I hope we are that team). The ideal scenario for me would be to trade down into the mid teens. The extra picks gained from that trade plus some of our current picks would allow us to move back into the late first to secure that 5th year option.

People comparing him to Malik Willis are just being lazy. They are not the same quarterback at all. He will use his legs, but he isn't dependent on them.

I view his age as a positive, as all the interviews I have seen he's come across very mature and humble. He just strikes me as someone you can trust to lead a team.

No, it doesn't. Taking Richardson with so little experience and rough performance based purely on speculated potential is well, just a bad idea.

Well when you wrong you’re wrong and you sir are wrong. But I am glad your okay being wrong.
Panthers are not gonna draft a QB in the second round. It is either first round or not at all.

I could see the Saints drafting him with that first they got from Denver for Sean Payton.

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
