    • Trade up to #1 & draft Bryce (uncomfortable amount of capital)
      5
    • Trade up to #3 & draft Stroud (uncomfortable amount of capital)
      13
    • Trade up to #5 & draft Richardson (uncomfortable amount of capital)
      4
    • Stay at #9 & draft Levis
      3
    • Take BPA at #9, #39 and draft Hooker at #61

Look at these scenarios only.. would you go with Hooker?

I'm just seeing what everyone thinks about Hooker.. like are we just not gonna talk about him?

We've discussed him a little bit. Hell they've met with him. I think it was D. Jeremiah that said he wouldn't be surprised if Hooker turns out to have the best career of any QB in the class.

It's all about value, belief and the poker game that's the draft. If they decide to take him day 2, I'll be good with it. If they think they can get him day 3, them of course a day 2 pick would be a waste.

There are things to like about his game. He was perhaps the safest pick before injury. He could turn out to be the best value of the draft depending upon how things fall. He is injured though, so he could turn out not to be a value at all if he turns out to be injury prone (especially regarding that knee).

Not that I want it but a definite head explode/fan chaos scenario would be picking defense or Mayer at 9, then trading UP to 28-30 for Hooker like BAL did for Lamar.  Securing that 5th year option.  I'd love to just see the reaction on that.

At the end of the day, I'm leaning towards a trade up to the top-5 that doesn't include our 2024 1st.  Simple as that.  If we can pull something off with our 2024 2nd and 2025 1st, then I think that would be something to get stoked for.

If we're confident in this staff, 2024 could be a late teens pick, but 2025 should be pick 26-32.

Hooker is raw and won’t start. I have seen a possible of signing Carr, using 9 at BPA and drafting Hooker.
But that scenario likely means Carr will be here 3-4 years means Hooker, who is already an old rookie, will be 2 years from turning 30.
I am just not a fan of drafting a 25 year old rookie.
The last old rookie QB we drafted wasn’t very good.

When people use the term raw, I'd love some extrapolation. I can't say that I saw a raw prospect in the TEN-Bama game or a few others.  He leads receivers, has really great placement, solid footwork, he's got the wheels, great size, and simply took games over, on his back to get the W.

Now, was TEN's offense more gimmick than others that properly ready-a-guy for the NFL? Yes, valid.  But let's not overlook Hooker developed and played well in a far different Hokies' offense for a few years, and for example, absolutely smashed Pickett 28-0 as a Junior.  That was an offense with NFL zone concepts, high TE usage, one that has nice bridging to a pro level.

The age, yes I will give you that.  It's a valid concern, he'll be 29-30 at the end of his first contract, but we should know about a guy coming on strong mid 20s, we got plenty of miles off of Delhomme who only budded at 28.  Hooker best case could carve out 12 years in the league, if he works out, I think it's realistically 8-10.  That's just something you take in choosing him.

But what is he like a year older than Levis (turns 24 in June) so it's not like he's Weinke.  I'll tell you this: Get used to seeing more super seniors.

If you like the breadth of talent, the prospect, think he can play at/near the onset, that's a worthy pick.

I don't think he should be getting this joking phhhhsh, get outta here type response.  He could have a very nice career in the NFL.  If we can't work out a trade, I don't think it's the end of the world if we find a way to Hooker after pick 9.  I doubt it will come to that, but I don't think he should be getting so easily dismissed.

For whatever reason, I've found Hooker intriguing all year.  He has the tools.  His age does not worry me, because I am in the group that equates age with maturity, which may help in the "between the ears" transition.  The fact that he played in a gimmick offense is not the concern, it is whether he can play in an NFL offense.  We have seen college QBs play in pseudo-NFL offenses fail when they get to the NFL, so that is almost a non-factor anymore.

I'd find his availability at draft slot 61 equally intriguing.....regardless of what we do at 9.

I'm becoming a fan of flooding the QB room and letting Reich sort it out.  I don't normally like the idea of throwing the shite against the wall to see what sticks, but we have one QB on the roster right now, we know nothing about him, and we have not had a viable starter or plan for the position in years.

For the record, it is not the only position we need, but it is becoming almost a tradition that we enter the season needing one.

Hooker at 61 is a good value....that was my vote, but I am also on the fence about Levis @ 9...I just don't know enough about him to be sure either way.  Young or CJ would be great but from 9 I agree not worth the cost....would rather BPA and find QB elsewhere like this or FA.  I'm tired of bridge QB's too but ignoring the reality we sit with is a big mistake

Hooker seems like a really smart guy.  That should play in his favor.  He also takes care of the ball.

He brought Tennessee to prominance--beat Bama.  I hear, "system qb" -- they all are.  If there was a system in which you can throw for nearly 40TDs and about 5 ints without needing intelligent processing and talent, then everyone would be running that system.  If the system is really easy to run, then it is really easy to defend.

Furthermore I see Stroud and Young going in the first 2 picks.  So you are looking at giving up a first rounder and maybe a second for Levis or Richardson.  Hooker is better than both.  He will probably be drafted with pick #39 if we go that route, not #61 or whatever--to make sure we get him.

At 26, he has 2 contracts in him, so what is the problem?  How many did Cam have in him when we drafted him at 22 years of age?

😗  nice.  But because that one time we drafted a 30-year old rookie QB we need to make a rule never to draft a QB over the age of 23....

Like I said, even at 26, he can play through 2 contracts and that is what Cam did--he is mature, a leader, and will not cost us a first rounder and a second (probably) to secure Levis or Richardson.

It is hard to gauge talent at QB, so I never pretend to act like I know more than my plan.  My plan would be to trade back in round 1, grab a TE and then grab Hooker in round 2.
