I think the “ouch my finger” route isn’t that simple. Most players have injuries they play through throughout the season. He isn’t going to risk any further injury without some sort of guarantee (longer term contract more money etc…). You mentioned language in the contract??? I dare any NFL team to write up a contract saying the player will play through “mild” injuries. That’s a damn lawsuit waiting to happen with this whole player safety movement going on. Just like CMC never finished a “healthy” season during our previous two 5 win seasons, but magically made it all year on a team in the playoffs in San Francisco. You are going to have a hard time making a player play through any minor injury. Though it wasn’t minor, Jackson pretty much did this the last game of the season and had teammates upset about it. Why would he risk further injuring his body with there is no financial protection?
I’ll say it again just like I did to Sizzle over and over again. Strong arming the locker room leader/QB of the team is not very good business.

Is excusing a guy who lets his teammates down any better?

Teams don't have to offer Jackson anything at all. That much is abundantly clear today.

It’s very early, but assuming Lamar had no power or control in the situation seems a bit naive…

Letting teammates down can be used on every top QB pick that sits out his bowl game. They have to make career choices as well. Imagine a company not paying you what you are worth and asking you not to let your coworkers down and to continue working.

It's a business, and all the players know it. Some may have been mad, some not. You seem to be relishing in the fact that Jackson didn't get any offers today, but this process is just beginning. Just like I told you that no one was going to sign Carr out of the gate (unless they were stupid), it's not realistic to think that anyone would offer Lamar a contract today. It's not even realistic to think that he would sign the offer today considering that he has until week 10 of the regular season to sign it, and that's even if he signs it at all.

If nothing else it's the lying season, so I wouldn't exactly take everything at face value. Even still, like I said, the process is just beginning.

He doesn't have to take what they offer, but even in full free agency there's no guarantee he gets a better offer.

With the franchise tag in play, it's even more limited than that.

With an injury history it gets even worse.

He's won 75% of his games as a starter.

lol some of you dudes just don't want this guy which is fine. Just admit you don't wont him. But when you push a narrative like this dude has fell off is just not true.

How has he fell off when he's winning 75% of his games as a starter?

I said “hard pass” I don’t know how that is not admitting I don’t want him. Also, seems like pretty much the whole NFL agrees with me.

I see the options and ultimately think a long term deal will be reached like that tweet you posted earlier. It won’t be Watson money (as no contract should), but it should be Carr or higher minimum.

Uuuhhh...no. I don't give a sh-t whether Jackson makes a billion or makes nothing. Why should I? Do you?

The only thing I care about to any degree is what affects the Panthers.

If I cared that deeply about other stuff like this, I might be in danger of going off on an emotional rant over discussion on a football message board.

That'd be pretty silly, don't you think?

Most of the speculation I've seen has him ultimately signing a long term deal with Baltimore, but not the kind of fully guaranteed deal he's seeking.

It makes sense.

Well you surely are talking about it a lot. Kinda reminds me of when you were relishing in Nawrocki's hit piece against Cam. Always sticking up for the institution, huh? Yeah!

    • While I hated keeping Rhule, I thought if he still kept sucking, it would be an easy path to number 1. Firing him 5 games into the season then winning meaningless games just made it worse. We weren't making a deep run even if we made the wildcard with a losing record. That whole season was pointless, but at least I was optimistic an owner with 1/4 of a brain couldn't muck it up. Ahhh Dave....
