Also if Houston realizes Carolina is willing to accept a trade to 2 then obviously it’s because they’re not taking the guy Houston wants.

Again, no chance Houston or anyone should believe that this new staff and Tepper pushed all their chips in to recoup a 2nd rounder and let Houston decide their QB of the future

Yeah why go all the way to #1 and then trade back one spot for an extra day two pick and then try to explain to the world that you were fine drafting either of the top 2 QB's? All they talk about is conviction, you moved to #1, say you moved up there for whichever QB you take and spend free agency getting guys that you think compliment their skill set. This move doesn't make sense if it doesn't involve already having your QB selected and building free agency around that game plan

No. There is a clear QB1 among scouts despite the hype and fans. Despite the team saying they like either or blah blah…they know who everyone wants including themselves. Likely Stroud. If you have that first overall and need a QB, you’re going with Stroud period. But even if it wasn’t Stroud, it is a single player not either or that 99% of teams agree goes #1.

All this other talk is simply politics because you never want to talk poorly on any level of any player for a lot of reasons (playing them, ending up with them on the team down the line etc.)

Inside source confirmed they were also comfortable with #2 if that's what ended up being the best deal (the Texans wouldn't likely have wanted to trade down to #9 in their position though).

If you're comfortable getting either of two choices, and you can recoup an additional high pick by taking the second, why wouldn't you?

houston doesn’t know who we’re going to take, only that we could take more than one. if they want one guy and one guy only, it would be worth it to them to guarantee that guy.

Because you want to set a tone and let the whole team and fanbase know that you got the best Qb in the draft? Whether it works out or not is another story later down the line. Franchise QB has to do a lot more than just be equal talent on the field as well. It's not like 2 really good DE's going top 2 and either one are really good and don't have to talk to the media/lead the locker room and all that stuff every week

Nobody up there should give a sh-t what the fanbase thinks. As the old saying goes, listen to the fans and you wind up sitting with them.

Insider reports have confirmed that the Panthers believe all three of their top prospects have the potential to be franchise quarterbacks.

So then the question becomes just a franchise quarterback vs a franchise quarterback and another great player.

Are you really gonna turn down the chance to add another good player to your team just so you can brag that you had the #1 overall?

If I'm a player and one of my team guys told me that's the way they were thinking, I'd question their competence.

No, not when it comes to QB, it’s too important to hope they take the guy we prefer second, even if comfortable with both.

You gave all this up to move up to #1, you make sure you get the guy you rank higher, no if’s, and’s, or but’s about it

Sorry dude, but that doesn't make any sense.

If you have two players you equally believe in, and taking one of them allows you to also get another really good player on your team, you'd have to be a fool not to take that option.

There is no way they won’t be able to rank one above the other, they might be close and they might have been okay with getting either going into the draft, but they’d still have a preference in the end.

In a world where picking the right QB is this necessary, you don’t risk it, you take the one you have ranked higher.

Yeah...that's not how scouting works.

Teams can and frequently do like more than one player equally even if they ultimately can only choose one.

You're basing your thinking on a false narrative.
