With the details of the deals today being out, counting the deal with Thompson (which i have saving the team 8m in cap space, could be even more than that actually).

Panthers should still have 20m in cap space left.

That would give us about 12 million left unless you already took out the 8 needed for rookies.

Which is why we need to cut Elflein, he isn't too hard to replace on the roster, especially if Cade can take a step forward this year.  We need that $4 million to spend elsewhere right now, can get backup lineman in the draft or later in FA.

Still need to land some WR, RB, TE, DE, CB, plus a backup QB too.

anyone else concerned about the lack of quality in the NT position? I know FA is just starting but damn we need help at NT because this 3-4 defense needs a space eater in there.

Not at all, saw people saying today after we signed him that Tuttle is more like 325 lbs these days, and let's be real, we could put DB in that spot on run plays and he isn't going to be moved anywhere and take up 2 blockers.  He probably is best used as a pass rushing DE in the 3-4, but if we lack true NT depth in year 1 with this staff, I think he can spend some of his time there in the middle.

That's also a position that a lot of times can be filled with a late round draft pick since you're really just looking for a massive human being who isn't going to pass rush, they can be found in the 5-7 round range.  Use our our first 4 picks on offense and then use our second 4th or 5th rounder on a 350 lbs NT.

That's not counting rookies. I expect them to target, wr, de/te and rb in the draft if they can't bring Forman back on a good deal.

Got to get a cb and either de or te somewhere in fa. I'd expect they get a younger raw free agent Edge rusher in FA to pair with Burns on the outside and get a cheaper vet to fill out the other 3-4 end.

Tuttle will be the 3-4 nose, mcall will back him up I imagine.  Then you've got Brown on one end and YGM on the other as starters. Edge you've got Burns and a bunch of ? marks that could make a huge impact in the new defense.  Ilb seems set with shaq and Chinn. Just need depth at corner and on dl from draft and FA unless you can get a good vet for cheap.

Offense needs help though at TE, WR and RB.

I think they've done a lot to improve the middle of the defense today

Good moves today, interested to see what Foreman will do.

Elf was decent at C and held his own, very serviceable backup to Boze but a tad expensive because I think Elf really is only good at C. He never looked great at guard.

Will Elf restructure or is he a cut??

For cap reasons, he will be cut.  I think Mays can back up Bozeman at C.

About NT--we have Marquan McCall who was pretty solid last year in very limited duty--345 lbs.  56.8 PFF score for a rookie (he will be 24).  Bravvion Roy is 330 lbs in limited duty and he scored a 56 PFF-he will be 26.  That is not great, but it is serviceable.

I think Gant said Tuttle will be the NT and his playing weight is closer to 320. Tuttle with McCall/Roy as depth is decent.

    • Here is how I see it--he is good--but do we not already have 2 safeties in that mold?   Rodriguez could be late first early second.

    • You're dreaming if you think that's all it would cost to move up from the 51st pick to the 1st round. It would take at least a first next year
