Our new DC just said we are going to be a base 3-4 defense. He will actually see the field less if he stays. Woods, Bell, Chinn are all SSs. We need a FS somewhere. Woods just got a new deal, so I doubt he goes anywhere and most likely to move to FS with the acquisition of Bell. Chinn doesnt fit the 3-4 and we have too many SSs on the team now.

How often does a modem nfl defense go heavy on CB packages and how often does a team on average line up in 3-4 base…..

If we were going to be a hybrid, Evero wouldve said so but he didnt.

Lol what did you take from his interviews? That we would be a 3-4 defense only?

Modern innovating defensive coordinators use multiple fronts, and looks. Players like Chinn are extremely valuable because he can do so much for you as a coverage or in the box player. He will confuse the hell out of offenses and never leaves the field. Chinn can blitz, be great against the run, cover the slot, anything.

"Yeah, Ejiro’s been 3-4,” he replied. “It’ll be a base 3-4 scheme. But when we get in sub, it’s really multiple. It’s really multiple. There’s four-down, three-down, five-down. It’ll all depend on how Ejiro and the defensive staff wanna take advantage of our players’ strengths. We’ll be very multiple. But in our base defense, we’ll be 3-4"

Not a bad deal, $7mil a year

I think the Chinn angle is undertalked about. I mean day one and they sign a safety?!?!? Chinn and his huge neck, better buckle up and get to making a difference.....this is his contract year too...

    • I love the linemen. Intrigued by the idea of Brazzell but a little skeptical  No opinion of the others
    • I'll say the same thing this year that I said last year, wins and losses aren't important. The only important thing is coming to a decision on Bryce one way or the other.  If he looks amazing but we find ways to lose, who cares we lost, we have our QB of the future.  If he looks terrible but we find ways to win, who cares that we won, we have to replace him. And that's not me saying I don't want to see us win next year, just saying that wins/losses are secondary and far less important this season than coming to a 100% conclusion on what Bryce is for us. Having said that, the only way I'll be okay with giving him an extension instead of replacing him is if he is a borderline MVP candidate and at minimum, an unquestioned Top 10 QB in the league next year. Even just a season of slight improvement won't be enough for me, that's still not good enough to warrant a big extension, he has the team around him, he needs to show why he was the #1 overall pick, if not, good bye.
