Nice to have a group of guys with an actual plan on how to succeed. Rhule was throwing poo at the wall from day one hoping someone would make him look good.

We’ve never had a staff that was focused on setting a QB up for success

Has anyone noticed that Shi Smith is never mentioned as far as guys we already have. They only mention TMJ and Laviska. This is twice now

Yeah that’s interesting, must have been a Rhule guy

Well to be fair, he kinda was.

Even Tepper himself has admitted that he came into the NFL with some wrongheaded ideas. Those were what led to the Rhule hire which was then the source for most of the issues over the past three years.

The incorrect assumption was that he couldn't learn. He has, and now we seem to be headed in the right direction.

Sure, I’m not disagreeing with that, but rather the notion that it was permanent. I remember the posts pretty well. “We have the new Jerry Jones” and “this franchise is doomed, he’ll be moving it out of Charlotte soon anyway” etc.

He had a poor start but it was his first time doing it. It was way too early and while I’m indifferent to Tepper as a person it did always look to me like he truly does want to win. Based on the way he assembled this current staff, suggesting there’s no limit on what he would pay to make sure we have the best coaches possible is reassuring. It’s just the permanent doom and gloom that had set in here that gets exhausting lol

I mean you get sacked either way.

Rhule tried to build a roster and backdoor his way into a good QB (Bridgewater and Darnold, mainly) on the cheap.

Reich has sold the farm for the #1 pick. Ultimately if he misses on that pick he's gone in 3 years.

Again to be fair, it's a pretty common human treat to expect that when somebody is a certain way, they're likely going to stay that way (especially Type A guys like Tepper).

Now with that said, yes the people who assumed this were...wrong.

And I'm pretty happy about that 😀

I wouldn't read too much into it. Smith is a small slot receiver that we picked up at the end of round 6. With Theilen coming onboard, Shi's touches are definitely going to be limited. He's not exactly going to challenge Theilen for a starting role. TMJ and Shenault were both second round guys that we all expect more from. With Theilen at slot and Chark taking the top off of defenses, these 2 are fighting to be the other guy (however you want to refer to that position as, not trying to reopen THAT can of worms). I assume that there will be a rookie or another FA brought into that competition as well.

Based on what? The fact that he did a 180 and went with a retread NFL coach recently fired instead of the next flavor college coach w/ virtually no NFL experience? I like Reich and the choice, but the man got fired in Indianapolis for a reason and that reason was losing football games.  Tepper is 29-53 since buying the team.  His highlights are paying a ton for Matt Rhule and defrauding Rock Hill, SC.

He went with a professional coach on the recommendation of his football people rather than a college coach based on a gut feeling.

The results may still be yet to come, but I'll take that.

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
