Maybe.  Young looks pretty awesome sitting comfortably in the pocket.

The question is, who do you want at QB when Icky or Sanders gets hurt?

You want a QB who can save your tail in a pinch.  I think both can do this... Young is just better at it.

If we pick Young I hope it carries over from College. I just think Stroud is the overall better NFL prospect.

I believe Young can do more with less, but I also think Stroud can do more with more. Currently I believe we have a team and coaches where Stroud would excel behind what Young can do.

This is the thing with me right the carrying part with Bryce gotta quit it’s Alabama guys not Missouri they retool every year! Bryce young’s wide receivers that where so “bad” still transferred and went to other D1 programs… I’ve seen Bryce young play like garbage and get carried by his defense. Name one Defensive player from Ohio state that’s projected to go in the first 2 rounds ?

I’d be surprised if TJ Tuimoloau wasn’t a top 10 selection next year. Jessie Eichenburg probably goes in the first next as well. This year maybe Zach Harrison goes round 2 but probably day 2.

Ohio State got plenty of help from the defense in the Penn state and Maryland games for example when Stroud wasn’t really on.

Bamas defense was definitely better, but Ohio states skill positions this year were far better and its clear on the tape and it’ll be clear in the draft. Both these guys were at elite programs but some years they go through dips in development. Bama hasn’t been this bad at receiver in a while, but last year they were fantastic. Ohio States defense hasn’t been as elite as usual lately though for sure. Thimoloau is a certified star who may go top 5 next year really.

The whole premise of this thread is silly, since any college spread offense, has very few snaps under center.

He can easily play under center with his football IQ, desire to be the best, and work ethic.

When you go from no under center to 75% under center (Reich) it’s a concern

It's odd how anyone can be so scared of Richardson but not Young. Both have high bust potential for different reasons. But unlike Bryce Young who isn't going to suddenly grow several inches and wake up one day and not be the smallest starter in the NFL Richardson can absolutely develop the football IQ necessary to take the next step. Honestly some people are going a little overboard hyping Young's own processing and football IQ. He isn't professor Xavier and everyone else is a total knothead. I would absolutely be considering Anthony Richardson if I were our staff.

If his processing was that elite he wouldn’t have duds like he has had.

Reich's Indy teams were typically near the top of the league in terms of snap percentage from shotgun. The lowest shotgun percentage they ran under Reich was 64%. They were more typically around 75%.

If who's processing was so elite?

On the topic of Richardson though, how long do you give SunBelt Billy before he's fired? That offensive system... woof!

I’m not a fan who is in a rush. I like Billy Napier. He should get three full seasons to show improvement after Mullen forgot to recruit.

Having 9 and 10 seconds in the pocket doesnt really convince me that Young has elite processing speed

Yeah all that scrambling and wearing out your O-line just to complete a 15 yard pass or whatever. That's not gonna work at the NFL level. When he actually faced real NFL level pressure he wasn't very good.

Texas-

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT   QBR
27/39 213 5.5 1 0   75.9

Georgia 2022 C

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT   QBR
35/57 369 6.5 1 2   82.3

Just for reference that is adjusted QBR with a scale of 0-100 with 50 being average

LSU wasn’t too great either. They had some athletic NFL bound DL players that contained him.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
