By the time Bryce Young is ready for an extension he will sign a deal 5X that of Hurts at this rate

hopefully with a SB win or 2 by then! We've got 5 years of him (or Stroud) on the cheap, gotta make the most of it.

FROM A RECENT ESPN ARTICLE:

Given the absurdity of quarterback contracts, which have risen every single year over the past decade or so, the league is reportedly starting to wonder if it makes sense to have a separate NFL salary cap just for the most important position on the field.

That’s according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who detailed what he’s hearing from sources as the league begins conversations about a new CBA.

This is a pretty genius idea from the league. However Fowler points out, it will be difficult to get done because of the complexities of the NFL salary cap, which is already difficult to understand and for teams to maneuver. But, given the emphasis on having a franchise quarterback, giving teams more money to spend on that specific position is at least worth discussing.

Let’s face it, every single team has to make difficult decisions each offseason based off of the salary cap number at the time. We’ve seen future Hall of Famers at numerous positions be cut to save money to sign a quarterback, like Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas in Seattle in order to allocate more cash to Russell Wilson.

While this has always been part of the league, it’s smart that the NFL is at least analyzing what a separate salary cap for just passers would look like. Who knows if it actually comes to fruition or not, though.

Burrow is about to clear all them whenever he gets a new deal.  I could see him approaching 60 mil a year. These QB salaries are getting out of hand.  Its not sustainable to pay 1 player out of 53 25%+ of the salary cap.  And its not like the salaries are going down anytime soon.

How are the Bengals gonna pay Burrow, Higgins, and Chase?

Easy.  They're not lol.  Both Burrow and Chase will become the highest paid players at their positions in NFL history when deal time comes.  Higgins is definitely going to be the odd man out.

So what part of the team suffers from all this cap money spent in one area, receivers, ol, defense?  Fans will be complaining he does not have any weapons around him in a couple of years.  Don't get me wrong I would take it and run if I were him, but this does give the team less to spend on the parts around him.

    • Hornets lead down to 16 early in the third.   Derrick White is single handedly keeping the Celtics in this game.
