We wont sniff or win a superbowl  in next 5 years without first contract players balling out. They will not ball out if they don't get to play.

i concur wholeheartedly. We have way too many kids on this team that we just don't know what we truly have. This year is an evaluation type year. Find out what we have, where we can improve. Then next year put the rest of the pieces together.

I know folks are in a hurry. But his team is not ready for a Hopkins and his 18mil contract.

Who said Hopkins is getting 18 mil?

People are saying if he comes cheap then we should pursue it. From the looks of it he's not getting 18 mil from any team.

Yeah if he was getting that much he would have already gotten it.  No one has much cap space.  2 years 25 million seems reasonable

Exactly we have nothing to lose on that kind of deal.

In fact that seems like the perfect deal considering his age. By the end of that contract he will be 33 and we can move on to the younger WR's or go after another big name WR.

I'm sorry, and I apologize in advance. But...You guys are nuts. You are letting your heart rule your mind. No way Hops signs a 2 year 25mil contract to play here. He is not taking any discounts.

I would almost bet he would sit out before he takes a slap in the face money you guys want him to play for.

12.5 mil a year is a slap in the face?

The OBJ deal was a overpay by the Ravens. Im sure Hopkins wants the kind of money, but the market is dried up. He was released after FA and the draft. Much like Cam he has to take the best deal on the table even if it is less than OBJ.

Same story, different versions. And all are true.

I just don't see it. Hops coming here for peanuts. I shake my head at that thought.

Now...if by the grace of all that is holy, Hops winds up here. I will be both mad, and happy. Mad we wasted that much money instead of developing our own guys. But happy cuz Bryce has him a new toy.

Are you happy now?

this is one deal where I feel all parties need to wait, (until TC.)

laugh away, but I got the panthers 6 deep with a bryd at 7th. Plus 4-5 TEs that can "wr" a few plays. Not to mention a starting RB who can run routes. It reaches a point where theres only one ball.....then a bunch upset players.

Now if the injury bug hits during TC, this needs to get super serious about signing dhop. What will likly happen, that happens to another and they over-pay for his play this year(or future cap BS).

Just curious how much are you expecting him to sign for?

To me? It all comes down to how badly he really wants to play for a non-contender.

So...The better the team, the less money he'd need. Conversely, the worse the team? The more money it will take.

He's already stated he won't play for a rook, or a non-contender. So, it would cost us close to that 18mil number.

He may go for 15mil to a contender.

And if no contender calls? He just may sit out.

IMO, this is an evaluation year. And Hops doesn't fit that game plan.

I don't want them if they only balling out for a contract.

If they good they will ballout out regardless of contract. People need to understand Hopkins is a #1 WR point blank. You want to win games then you sign him. If you think we in a rebuild then let the young guys play.

I see the point and for sure, I agree with the sentiment. But it is a brutal game and an NFL career is over in a blink of an eye. Everybody is balling out for a contract. It might not be the first thing out of their mouths or front and center in the attitude they approach the game with, but ultimately money is the driver for most players. There are probably a handful of guys that would play for minimum wage (exaggerating for clarity), but I suspect this is the exception.

Our WR group has a ton of talent.  Not to mention a QB that could make them all look very good.  I would spend 15 mil or so elsewhere personally.  Pass

First, there are a bunch of young WR with potential. The only way to bring out that potential is through playing.

Second, adding Hops takes what 70+ snaps away from the kids who actually need them.

Third, we absolutely need to find out what we have at the WR position. More snaps equal better evaluations.

Fourth, if Bryce even come close to ROY, it will be because the WRs as a group pulled their weight.

Lastly, as you said, there are far more pressing needs for that money.

He was due 19 mil from the Cardinals this season before they decided to cut him, and no team picked up that check in a trade, so at least we know that no team will likely be offering him more than that.

Well, I said 18MIL. So, I guess I'm still in the running.

    • lmao that's a good point; but at the same time I think and HOPE Canales learned from how he operated last year, only giving us one real look against the Bills that had people shouting 'Super Bowl'...only to come out flat.
    • I mean the whole defense was trash, he was at least trying. Besides if you put a all-pro among 10 PSers, that all-world will look human. It's very hard to judge very bad units and find the best players among them. Horn and Mjack played well too, there was 0 pass rush and -1777784 run defense.
    • I was looking back and seen Evan Neal has made the switch to OG after awful years at OT.......I wanted him over Icky for his tricep alone..... I was 100% stroud too, I was super pissed about his record setting and playoff leading start......I had arich vastly over the midget BY too. But right now, BY is about the only one on the up&up. The Texans used lots of prime draft capital to help Stroud.  It's still not ready. But if you're honestly about past drafts, these GMs are not alone in making mistakes.  I still feel they should stayed put and allowed Carter to fall in their lap, but best I know Tepper had the worst rage about landing a QB for the past 5 years. The deal is with the correct coaching staff, Baker or darnold would still be here....Baker has signed 3 years for 100 million, which is a great NFL QB contract. Tepper hiring rhule and his shitty Baylor/temple staff was a massive setback given rhule was in control too. Then panic set in an d fitteerererererer had to make a winner and find a QB. Ugh.....I hope they are back...
