Say this Bryce thing doesn't work out... how far back is the Franchise set?

To answer the chicken little question, we're honestly not in horrible shape long term. 

We don't have a first in 2024, but have it in 2025. Realistically speaking we will know if Bryce is that dude by the end of next season heading into the 2025 draft where we can then re-evaluate and take another QB if necessary. 

We aren't in horrible long term shape, just mid short term shape in terms of draft assets due to the lack of first round pick next draft.

I'm not sure it was.  He had average to below average NFL arm strength (good not great is a common term used).  That's about where Bryce is IMO.  They are both rhythm throwers who have elite accuracy and throw to where the WRs are going to be before they are there.  It makes for some bad misses when the wrong routes are ran, but is a thing of beauty when it's firing on all cylinders.  Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison Sr were elite route runners which paired perfect with Peyton's arm/style.

BY arm is comparable to the Mannings, Brady, Brees and Matt Ryan.. Above Avg not Holitzer arms..  Some ppl want to act like he is Chad Pennington or something.. His arm is actually comparable to Russell Wilson.:

He looked like Teddy light to me but there are 16 more to go. 

All I do know is that tickets are not selling and I am very interested to see what the home crowd looks like this week. It's been really bad in Pantherland and this was not a game to improve the mood.

No, just the past couple.  I was willing to see the Darnold experiment, at least year one, through.  What I have been harping on for the past several drafts was OT (check--Ickey) Safety (Chinn?) and TE.  Add WR to that list now along with edge rusher.  With the M*A*S*H unit at corner, might as well get some insurance there too.

I think a lot of folks don't recall Manning in his prime because of how diminished he was at the end.

I have faith that Bryce will have an above average to good career. The only thing that concerns me is the durability which remains to be seen.

I do NOT have faith that he is going to have the right people around him. 
 

But for sake of argument say that by year 3 he is not going to be a franchise QB. It will have put us behind around 5 years. A year for the lost draft capital. 2 years for finding and developing a true number 1 WR, and then probably another 2 years to take a swing at developing another QB out of the draft unless we have a shot at one in FA

nah, get Wilson out of that convo. Young and Wilson don't have comparable arms coming into the NFL.

      You are right--it was DC.  I remember talking to him at Belk in Albemarle one day--the Panthers were on a bye and they were (at the time) a disapointing 4-4.  I mentioned that the record was disappointing and he seemed to get a bit annoyed.  He dId not say anything.  I trying to suggest that we will get better, but I think he was pretty upset about it.  No hard feelings, but the man was simply trying to shop with his wife and this annoying jerk starts making comments about his job---I get it.  I apologized, telling him that I was trying to be supportive and not critical--he did not think it was a big deal.  I'd see him at events from time to time-he'd wave or say hi, but it was awkward for me.  Figured I would say something stupid.  Jordan was pretty popular--nothing like she seems to be now--she is holding her own in a man's world...proud of her.

      In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
