Reason(s) for the OL struggles

Okay so, back in training camp it was such a major news story that when they were going to have a sit down with the offensive line guys, Bryce stepped forward and said he'd like to lead the discussion and tell them how they needed to work in this scheme. It was an amazing show of his grasp of the system and the people involved in it, a real leadership moment foretelling how great he was.

They said.

Maybe the scheme is so basic that a rookie without even a pre-game snap was able to explain it. Imagine what a defensive coordinator with years and years of practice and observation could get from looking at it. And then turn a bunch of sack monsters loose with the knowledge that the scheme is that easy to pick apart.

The word we are looking for here is: roadkill. Wide-eyed roadkill.

We were confident that a rookie QB could explain the line's assignments and the theories that went into making up the scheme.  A rookie.

And we're wondering why it won't work.

Yes. A top 6 pick in his second year, a 3rd year guy, a 6th year guy, another 6th year guy, and a 7th year guy couldn't understand it but a guy who hasn't took a snap in the NFL could explain it perfectly. Because it's that simple.

We run a high school offense. I'm not just being an average negative poster. I watch film and have a decent football IQ. We have a VERY simple offense. We have literally only come out in 3 different personnel sets (92% in the same grouping) and (if i remember correctly) 5 or 6 formations.

when a NFL defense knows what you are doing.....you aren't going to be successful.   That's our story IMO.

you need dominant talent for the you know what I am doing but try and stop me approach.

Which it is EXTREMELY difficult to just line up and be better than the other team in the NFL.

That is the core of college football but it doesn't work at the NFL level.

Yep. The Panthers' Oline was built for road grading 1 on 1, not a zone scheme or whatever they're trying to do now.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken. They are trying to be fancy instead of helmet on helmet. The end result is Oline dancing in circles and blocking no one.

In the last game Seattle's D-line rushed the inside/middle of our O-line at least 3/4's of the time. Definitely the entire 4th quarter. And, of course, it worked because of two new, young starters. It gave Andy no pocket, no time and yet he managed to make a record 58 passing attempts. I hope Bryce was taking notes because I expect every defense we face to do the same thing.

You can blame scheme, coaching but a lot rides on you having healthy starters and we haven’t had that so far. Missing Corbett and Brady means the others have to get used to playing with guys they don’t normally play with. That and the obvious drop off in talent is huge.

Team health is no excuse here and it hasn't been for years.

    • Well bois, we gave the Devils their due! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... The jersey boys have been trying to jack our steeze for a few years now. They've followed our blueprints and studied our tape. Every offseason, they pounce on our sloppy seconds in a Newark minute. Quick with the puck, ferocious on the forecheck and stifling team defense. Down to the colors, this is this closest we'll come to having to play ourselves in Ole Stanley's Hockey Hoedown. As the postseason began, Rod stood flexing in the gym mirror and saw this guy staring back from the void... (Shutters) When beating us at our game didn't work, Timo and the Tri-State Trash tried to tango instead. Outside of a bitchass cheapshot on Freddie, that poo didn't work either. Their goon squad was getting wrecked by our bantam weights. As much as we all wanted to see Svechy or Staal Bunyan literally break someone in half after the Great Dane went down, they didnt need to. Our munchkins were monsters! Jarvis obliterating giants at the blue line, Logan laying the Stank on dudes twice his size and Blakers blasting Timo into next season. It was beautiful to see! (Side note: Does JBlo wear lead weights under his pads? 170lbs shouldn't be able to hit that hard!) We closed it out in 5, for the gentleman's sweep. Only team in the league to win a series in each of the past 7(?) seasons! And, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year... Onto the awards: Key To The Series : 6 for 19 - .316% IT FINALLY WORKED!!! MVP : 16/180 g/s - .911 save% - 2.53 gaa Seriously, without this dude, we would've won in 3! (Trust me bro) 3rd Star : 6/94 g/s - .936 save % - 1.59 gaa The Great Dane   2nd Star : 3 g - 5 a - +1 - 20:38 toi/g - 18 hits - 3 bs - 58.1% fo 3 PP goals and the 2OT series winning goal! WOOAAAHHH NELLY!!!!   And, your 1st Star of the series : 5 g - 1 a - +3 - 16:48 toi/g - 16 hits - 1 bs - 1 tk - 50% fo Zero, I repeat, zero penalty minutes for the series! MISSSTAAAHHH SVEEECHNIKOOOV!!!!!! Onto The Next: Now, we wait for the Habs to make it a nasty 7 game slog, while we recuperate. And, hopefully, get Nikishin, and some of the other black aces some real peactice time. We are gonna need those guys at some point. Because, if you think the Devils were dirty, hoooo boy, wait till you see what's next...
    • I don’t watch college football anymore (used to be Stanford STH but meh), but my wife is Hawaiian and her favorite color is purple, so I guess I knew Tet was my new favorite player to root for when he came out in a purple suit and lei and threw up the Shaka.
