If Bryce busts, was that the worst trade in the history of the NFL?

I don't see how you can evaluate a trade except by taking the outcome into account. Evaluating the hypothetical value is pointless.

That's like rationalizing spending $100k on lottery tickets because you COULD have won the Powerball that's worth billions. That logic didn't work on my wife, and it doesn't work here.

The time to debate the value of the trade up to #1 should taken place before the pick was made. Now it's made, so the trade should be evaluated based on what Bryce cost us, what Bryce has produced, and the icing on this shitcake is witnessing the opportunity cost in the form of Stroud.

I don't disagree. But as someone has said if we had made the same trade and drafted Stroud nobody would consider it a bad deal. There are some who argued before we even made the pick that it wasn't worth it regardless of whether we picked a franchise QB or a bust, which is nonsense.

If CMC ends up with a HOF career then the Panthers trade to the 49’ers ends up being the worst Panthers trade…..I was shocked by how little they got for one of the best offensive weapons in the game. He is more than a RB…..

terrible contract and he was never able to stay healthy. Remember, he only played 10 games the previous two seasons. Most observers praised the compensation the panthers received for that trade, and as bitter a pill it is to swallow I think it as the good move. They just didn't follow it up with good moves so it makes things worse in retrospect. They took those picks and let Tepper's wife draft a 35 year old linebacker who has barely cracked the roster.

The world where CMC is still doing well with the Panthers is also probably a world Reich isn't hired, Wilkes is given the HC position, and Bryce is never drafted. Obviously we all want that world. CMC on this current version of the Panthers would be completely wasted. Just getting tee'd off on behind the line of scrimmage and would probably be hurt. It'd be like the end of 2019 when they were just force feeding him to get him a record.

It sucks but I'm glad he's not here. Dude might win MVP this year and all Panthers fans should be happy for him. If they win the Super Bowl, I'll be cheering for him. Guy was the definition of class as a Panther, embodied Keep Pounding if ANYONE did, and if they want to put him in the ring of honor one day I'd be all for it.

Worst because he was so clearly inadequate. Herschel was a beast, a proven player.

If I were a Vikes fan I wouldn’t say that but this is the worst case ever for a team, I don’t know what was worse. This has monumental consequences if The Panthers are of any kind of importance to you.

BTW These morning guys on WFNZ are truly tards, while I am venting.

A definition of a colossal bust carries so much weight. If you miss on players like Jamarcus Russell or Ryan leaf it’s can really set you back a years. The reason this hurts so much with Bryce is the picks we gave away and how much worse the trades made this team horrible ….and here it is…across the board. The whole team is trash because of losing those pics and trading away players.

I personally think this was one f the worst trades in NFL history because of how bad it made the team.

It’s gonna suck when the Bears recreate the Cowboy’s 90s dynasty off of our stupidity

Trading Moore made it a bad trade. You don't send what little talent you have away from the rookie QB you are picking, just dumb from any angle. Young and capable WR replaced with another 2nd round typical Panther WR special. Dumb.

Picking Young made it an epically and historically bad trade. Young as a prospect wasn't nearly as good as a lot were yelling everywhere and it ended up being embarrassingly wrong. Young on this team with how it was built was stupid. Young with Reich was stupid.

And no the Texans wouldn't be doing great with Young. They would just have wasted 1 first rounder and not another one, a starting WR and even more draft capital. They may have 2 or even 3 wins but if you think Young would be lighting it up like Stroud then you are still missing the obvious other parts of why Young is not going to pull out from the bust tailspin he is in now.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
