"You go get the guy that you want, you know," general manager Scott Fitterer said at the combine about potentially trading up for a quarterback. "If you have a conviction on a guy, you go get him. It's pretty simple that way. If you don't know and you're going to give all these resources to go up and get it, you're hurting your team in the long run.

"You better be right. You better have conviction if you do move up. When you do that, you're all in."

Then after saying this, they acted like they didn’t have conviction until a couple days before the draft.

Confusing.

And not drafting Puka Nucua the Rams rookie breakout. We need some scouting department changes too.

This this this all day. The scouting staff needs to wear a LOT of what is going wrong with this team. Fitt gets the blame for making the pick, but this scouting staff are the ones with boots on the ground evaluating the talent and making the recommendations.

How can people who do this for a living be so consistently wrong when guys who explode are taken later in the draft?

It's so, so early to evaluate quarterbacks, but there's no denying that the Panthers, who traded their 2024 first-round pick to trade up to take Bryce Young, would look so much better right now if Anthony Richardson or C.J. Stroud were under center. In fact, the Panthers might look better if they just kept the ninth-overall pick, kept D.J. Moore, and chose to give Andy Dalton the starting job.

Young has looked skittish and inaccurate to start his career. He's too conservative, and the big plays we saw him make at Alabama aren't happening in the NFL. Part of that is the talent around him. His top receiver is a past-his-prime Adam Thielen and a not-ready-yet Jonathan Mingo. Still, Young hasn't shown much of anything in his first three starts.

On top of that, he's already missed a game due to injury. The Panthers are currently winless, and it doesn't look like they are going to have any easy games on the schedule. Some thought they could steal some wins from the NFC South, but their rivals have been at least competitive. So, the Panthers might be using two number-one overall picks just to take Young, who hasn't shown he's the answer yet.

It’s always been said that you build through the draft. You use free agency to fill some holes, and if you are lucky you can get a star to fill a position and solidify it. I’ve been trying to remember though just how many building blocks Fitterer has traded away. Now some can’t be determined yet because it is still too early to judge, but what I have so far looks pretty alarming.

Sam Darnold - Traded a 2021 6th rounder, 2022 2nd and 4th rounder

Baker Mayfield - 2024 5th rounder

Matt Corral - Swapped 2022 3rd’s & traded a 2023 3rd

Bryce Young - 2023 1st & 2nd, 2024 1st, 2025 2nd & DJ Moore

(All of those picks were just to find a QB)

CJ Henderson - 2022 3rd, Dan Arnold & we received a 5th

Stephon Gilmore - 2023 6th

DJ Johnson - Swapped  2023 3rd’s, Traded 2023 4th

To find a QB we traded 2 1st’s, 3 2nd’s, 3rd, 4th & 5th (8 total draft picks) & DJ Moore

Can anyone think of anymore picks we gave up?

Sitting on the train trying to recall Fitts mistakes. What have I missed?

Traded a 5th and Dan Arnold for CJ Henderson
Traded Denzel Perryman and a 7th before the season started for a 6th rounder (ended up having a career year with the Raiders)
Drafted Jaycee Horn over Pat Surtain and Micah Parsons
Drafted a long snapper in the 5th then cut him after sitting a year on IR
Traded far too much to get Sam Darnold then immediately signed an extension before he took a snap
Let Haasan Reddick walk
Resigned Ian Thomas
Resigned Donte Jackson
Traded up for Matt Corral over Sam Howell
Drafted three players with no college production (Barno, Smith, Barnes)
Traded for Baker Mayfield then let him go (now playing well in Tampa)
Overpaid Robbie Anderson
Traded CMC
Let D’Onta Foreman walk, cut Baker Mayfield
Overpaid for Adam Thielen and Miles Sanders
Didn’t trade Burns for two 1st and a 2nd
Traded our best WR, two 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders to move up and take what looks like the wrong QB
Passed on Dell and took Mingo
Traded up for an older edge rusher with limited college production (DJ Johnson)

My bad didn't see the duplicate one someone else already posted.

    • We have taken two TEs in three seasons I think, and Sanders may not pan out or it may have been a sophomore slump, but we took a guy last year that was coming on.  I am not in favor of TE in round one and really don’t consider it a high priority in any round.
    • Trevon Moehrig, Turk Wharton, Bobby Brown, Jaelen Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Nic Scourton Giving him 6 starters in 2 offseasons that cost boat loads of money or a 2nd round pick... Not exactly handing the man scraps. The point of the draft is to make the team better. You want to make this about Bryce. It isn't. It's about improving the team. And if anyone can look at our offense and go "we're good", they are lying to themselves. You give quarterbacks weapons. We SCREAMED for YEARS to give Cam some help. But now because we are trying to do it for Bryce, you all are saying we are coddling him because of his "deficiencies". It's a double-standard because you don't like the guy, clearly. But even if he does fail, guess what? The next guy has help too. Win-win.
    • we have 2 solid/above average (however you want to phrase that) wr's, which is more than half the league at least.  We dont need to be blowing more first round capital just to placate Bryce and his limitations.   We have one absolute stud (probably top 10 wr) in tmac and we have a high floor guy with insane potential if he can stay healthy.  Yeah man we are in better shape than the bulk of the teams in the league.  If you need to add some speed or whatever, sure draft in the mid rounds or wait until tc cuts.  Its monumentally stupid to spend 3 straight firsts on a wr if thats the route they go.  ITs just more and more excuses for Bryce, thats where we are at now.    "How can bryce succeed without a big possession type wr (drafts 2 for him), how is bryce supposed to exceed without a speed guy......."   Its fuging never ending.  Give EE some goddamn help on defense for once
