The issue with the team is Tepper…

It's Reich's career on the line here, not Teppers. You guys really think he would bet his reputation on a QB he doesn't believe in? If that's true he's not just a bad coach but spineless too.

I'm sorry but I don't quiet completely understand your point because Frank Reich was hired prior to the draft & so what we supposed to do if he didn't let's say get his guy just quit ?

when did the narrative switch to Tepper forced the Young pick....seemned liked all summer the entire org wanted him

There had been reports that Tepper liked Young.

There had been reports that Reich liked Stroud.

But up to now, there had not been any credible reports that Tepper actually influenced the decision. Such reports, however, have started to emerge.

One thing you have to be clear on is that it's not necessarily being said that Tepper made the decision, just that he influenced it. There's a subtle difference between those things.

Unfortunately though, the result is the same.

What these stories have me thinking back to is Tepper's discussion of the dinner with Young. He raved about Young being able to break down a play that Reich brought up. If there's a moment we can point to where the decision was made in his mind, that may well be it.

And if, after that moment, he did indeed exert undue influence...yeah, that's not good.

Let's be clear on one thing though...

Even if all of this turns out to be true, none of it means that Young is a bust.

It's still way too early to say that, and there are still reasons to believe Young can become the franchise quarterback he was envisioned to be.

The practical upshot of all this is not that Young is bad. Rather it's the Tepper is bad and needs to take his hands completely off the operation.

But of course, we already knew that 🫥

Yeah it wasn’t some reach out of left field to draft him. He appeared to be the top QB prospect on more boards than not. He was a little polarizing due to his size which makes it a bit of a surprise we traded up what we did for him vs a Stroud who appeared to have a much higher floor.

repost:

I think the bigger point is that tepper and Nicole kind of poisoned the process and evaluation of things by letting everyone know who they liked.   It’s not supposed to be like that.   Just more continued meddling.  If young is the better prospect then let things play out neutrally.   But after the combine and strouds pro day I know who Reich and Mcown wanted.   Could that have changed absolutely but going into the process knowing who your boss and his wife likes is fuging playground poo.   Amateur hour.

you keep saying that over and over and over and there is simply no way to know that.  If you believe reports teams had him off their boards due to size, so it goes both ways.  And more importantly qbs fall each and every year.  Rodgers was going 2nd, Levis top 10, Willis top5,  point being you simply dont know how the draft would have shaken out if we go stroud 1.

The last part. How much is he micromanaging? IDK but it looks bad and eerily similar to the Rhule times even with better coaching. It's not just one guy but that was a giant move and the easist thing to zoom in on and evaluate. He sounds worse than feared.

I'm not the sort of person who likes conspiracy theories, but there is a possibility there when you factor in narcissistic personality types.

Jerry Jones interpreted the lack of success under Bill Parcells as evidence that his hands-on approach was just as good as allowing a football guy to run things.

Likewise, it's not hard to imagine David Tepper seeing the mess that was made under Rhule as evidence that he needed to be more involved in the day-to-day operation rather than less involved.

That's easily consistent with how Type-A personality people think.

Literally everyone minus Simms had him the top prospect.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
