Guy is a RB coach. Not a QB coach.

I don't understand why people have faith in him to be some savant OC when he apparently has played a large role in creating this playbook that no one seems to like but he never gets blamed for.

I do not know enough about him too make these kinds of assumptions about his abilities, what are people basing their optimism on, why is he credited as the one that isn't a reason for 0-6, Bryce, etc.?

Please explain.

Well the first couple scripted drives usually look good. That would seem to be the OC/HC collaboration part. Then Reich takes over on the fly and we look like ass. So I'll give TB a couple games. Play calling in the 2nd half of preseason games was obviously less vanilla

I’m not saying don’t, if only because I will always prefer a gameday sideline general let’s call it, to oversee things. If having that stuff straight means someone else has to take over a chore, that’s a good chore to take over.

I would say, likewise, the playcaller doesn’t need the distraction of running everything else, the whole deal is like recognizing it’s hard to serve two masters. One coach each is better if you have the talent, and maybe both things improve. That would be the hope.

I was looking for someone who can elaborate on why we should expect a guy who was a former RB to have more playcalling expertise than I am able to uncover. Everyone seems to feel like that is the problem, that Reich simply is a shitty play caller. I guess.

I cannot say that I like this offense, that I agree with the passing design and strategy, from the first game. I was just shocked. It looked like we were going to use actual in season football games simply as exercises  for this young green draft pick. Not trying to win. No way did I see urgency to win. Training wheels. I had no idea someone would be so bold as to clearly intentionally sacrifice games to groom a player and I was really concerned about what these people are thinking. Right away.  Oing That 5’10” 180 lb slightly built kid looking like the kicker wearing the #9 jersey isn’t giving me much assurance over their thought processes either. Anyhow good luck to coach Brown, for sure.

A good play can suck every time if it isn’t run correctly by 11 different guys. It is hard to get those 11 guys all being precise. He was highly involved in designing the  offense (right?) and it has looked pretty awful. Not saying it is His fault either, this constant failing we are watching has many fathers.

I think the execution sucks, the new playcalls will suck so why will things all of a sudden change? I mean, anything that helps Reich do a better job of managing this team and the game overall, I can’t be against, but I don’t see a savior here and some people seem to think that’s what we are getting. I want to know why they expect it from him. Make me understand why I should expect a better offense just because a new guy calls it a bit differently. They still have to execute.

I really think we’re putting too much stock into “the first two drives” narrative.

one it’s before the defense makes an adjustments and two I think the dolphins were just in base for the first quarter. Just like in college football they probably thought they didn’t need to do anything complicated to beat the panthers and they didn’t need to put stuff on tape. Happens to UGA all the time.

I think whatever Bryce’s progress is, is due to him realizing thielen is the only one out there worth a poo and he should find him every play. They even joked about that on the halftime show on Sunday. Someone was impersonating thielen in the huddle like “yeah i know what the play is, but I’m going to be open right there. You know.”

Everyone laughed in a way that made me think people with connections know something.

I don’t get it? There are a ton of OCs that call the plays. Why would TB get the HC job if the team starts winning? That just means that the HC made a change that works and you don’t want to rock the boat…Keep it rolling next season.

Thomas Brown is a very hot head coaching name. If you’ve never listened to an interview with him, you should take a minute.

Certainly more energizing and more inspiring than Frank “Nearer my god to Thee” Reich.

Has there ever been a time in NFL history that a team fired his HC to hire one of his coordinators to replace him?

Only one I can think of is Dirk Koetter after Tampa fired Lovie Smith. That one didn't go too well!

I doubt it, because it would make no sense even if you knew the coordinator was destined to be a better coach, just like with McDermott and Rivera.

Also, it seems like the only thing that is changing is play calling, I'm sure game prep will still be all the same between Reich and Brown, I don't think you make a HC change solely on play calling.

And finally, at this point, Bryce will need to be playing at a literal All Pro level the rest of this season fro Brown to sniff any HC jobs.  Looking at the last 3 offseason's of HC changes, the worst record for the team the new HC came from (excluding non previous HC's) to get an HC job was 9-8.

I don't care how much teams might like his potential, nobody is hiring the OC of a 4-13 or worse team to be their new HC.  There'd be a better chance of another team stealing him to be their OC than someone hiring him as an HC, short of us going like 7-4 down the stretch with the offense putting up video game numbers.

Uh ya Tampa did it.

The 1999 Rams kind of fall into that category although their HC wasn't "fired". St. Louis won the SB that year with Dick Vermeil as HC and Mike Martz as OC. Vermeil "retired" after the SB win and Mike Martz was promoted to the HC position the same day.

Those of us who remember that time will recall that the NFL Insiders were saying that Vermeil was "encouraged" to ride off into the sunset in order to let Martz (the hottest OC in the game at that time) take over the reigns of the "Greatest Show on Turf". In hindsight its obvious that Vermeil was not ready to call it quits. Vermeil returned to coach the Chiefs in 2001 and kept the HC job until 2005. The Chiefs were in the top 5 in total yards from from scrimmage every year he was there.  Vermeil left that Rams team in good shape. I've always believed he would have got another SB win with that squad. I don't think Belichick would have outcoached Vermeil the way he outcoached Martz in the Patriots 1st SB win in 2001.

if Frank is calling the plays and the play design is wrong for the defense...nvm

example: 1st down Frank to Brown, which formation you think?

Brown says Pistol..

Frank says I want to run RPO, Thomas says I think a inside zone/ Pa Shot is good against this defensive front.

Frank says nah i'm go with the RPO, that way we got both options.

But the RPO is a hand off or quick 1 read play.

While the inside zone could get u 3-4yrds, or the Pa Shot could get u 15yrds depending on the crossers.

(now inside Young head....Damn Frank always going with the opposite of whatever Brown says, yet he says they're collaborating yet Frank gets the last word bc he doesn't want the QB he didn't want to succeed.)

Now Young's SUPER EXCITIED

(inside every WR head...Damn Frank only calls plays for Thielen...)

Mingo, Marshall, and even Smith-Marsette -each will have a TD in the few weeks-watch what i tell ya

And he's background starting off as a TE coach under Mcvay is going be crucial for Hurst and Tremble.

I saw some play designs out of his playbook that has Tremble lined up at FB. He wanted more Hubba and LS in the backfield in split formations..etc...

Trust the offense is going look different, like one injury away at RG.

And the personnel changes matters, if the right guys ain't in the right spots then of course things might be shaky. Imagine, not saying it will happen for yall you oh that would never work mfers...but Thomas could be like ickey needs to play G and bam total different scheme/concepts already in play.

So BASICALLY, BROWN HAVING FULL CONTROL IS GOING MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
