Donte trade inquiry

On the one hand, trading him wouldn't be a bad idea for the right price.

On the other hand - I don't trust Fitterer to make good deals or draft good players.

Basically this.

Donte is the biggest playmaker we have in the secondary but he is currently getting paid like a better CB than he actually is. Without Horn and the safeties, he is basically a liability too often.

I like Donte and I would like to keep him. I just don't think he really moves the needle for our current team. If anything we should be stockpiling picks.

I would argue Troy Hill is a better player and a better playmaker, for a fraction of the price

Irrelevant.  What other teams value him as would be far more important in this equation.

However, as I said in the other thread, we aren't trading him.  Our depth is terrible and you can't tell your team six games in that you're giving up on the season.

Highly relevant. Both parties and their perceived value of the assets determine if the trade happens.

We’re talking about this year, Donte has been dog poo. Troy has for sure out played him so far this season

This year alone, yeah. Troy has been better.

Which, we also have to remember that Donte is coming off an Achilles injury. He may simply not be the same player he was before that injury.

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
