The more time I’ve thought about it, the more I REALLY want Greg here. He doesn’t have a negative quality.

He was a DUDE. Alpha. Laser focused, intense, highly intelligent clutch GAMEBREAKER who kept other defensive coordinators up at night. You NEVER saw him take a play off. He was the most savvy offensive player the Panthers have ever had. He was the Luke of our offense. I really want to see what plays he would draw up.

It Greg were to walk in to that locker room this Sunday, the whole place would go silent waiting for what he had to say. That’s what this team desperately needs

That's what I'm saying! We need a leader after all these plain toast HC we've had. Team is SOFT, directionless. We need the guy everyone wants to play for period. We need someone who is looked at as the man in the building. I bet you he would have an OC and DC who knew what they were doing. None one would be playing soft. AND he's one of our own? Who knows exactly what keep pounding means in the building and to the fans?

Greg is a winner. He has always been. Players will listen to what winners have to say. It’s been a while since a winner showed interest in coming to our franchise.

This would be the best decision Tepper made to date if he can make it happen.

you start winning games with Greg leading the way, panther nation would come off of life support.

I like how he plays all coy like, "Not me, but just generally a player can step in and be a coach." But he's literally wearing a hat that says "HC." If you think that's just a happy accident I got a bridge to sell you.

Also, it was nice of Rich Eisen to let Greg film a job interview during his show.

Can’t be worse than frank and rhule

Here is a way to look at it.  Gregg is smart, like way smarter than the average NFL player.  Gregg is proud, confident, but not cocky or arrogant.  In my opinion, he may just work out as a CEO type of coach.  If you have someone who is not a control freak (Rhule) or set in their system/ways (Frank), your main goal is to identify hard working assistants who are experts in their field who will create a culture that is conducive for improvement without micromanaging.  Gregg, knows culture from his playing experiences both good and bad. Gregg is the son of a coach, a very successful coach.  He has been to a super bowl and he has also been on terrible teams.

Additionally, he has been watching the league and studying the players of nearly every other team on a daily basis.  Olsen has likely made contacts that we are unaware of through attending practices, watching games, and doing interviews for the past 3 years.  The division of labor with a NFL staff is SO DTEAILED.  Some teams have coaches just for game management.  McVay has a guy to make sure he doesn't walk too far on the field.  Some HC's do not call any plays on either side of the ball.  If he can create a level of buy in and surround himself with guys who he will let cook, he is much improved from many retreads or flavor of the month assistants.

Just a thought.  Like G.O. said, "don't confuse experience with competence"... Right Frank/Rhule?

Over a 100 years of experience gave us the worst coaches we’ve had so I’m with him on that being overrated. A smart football mind who is a motivational leader is what I want and I think Greg has that.

i believe this is just a stunt to up his stock though. Like McCown, just being considered for a HC gig is a good one on the resume.

As for Greg... honestly, he's always struck me as a smart, level headed guy. Which is why this is so bizarre to me. He should know full well he's nowhere close to being able to step into an NFL HC role. If he wants to coach in the NFL he needs to go be a TE coach. If he wants to be a HC, he needs to the HS level or maybe the minor college level. That's just reality. That's why it makes no sense for him. He has a nice cushy well paying media gig he'll have to walk away from to make a lot less money in a very unglamorous coaching role to get started. You don't get to just jump to the front of the line and get a NFL HC gig right out of the gate with no coaching experience, pill popping Irsay and an brief interim HC who wasn't really considered for the full-time role not withstanding.

I mean, is Greg just trying to get back at Tepper here? He was very open that he straight up got his feelings hurt by his release which I get. It's understandable even when you know the business side of the game. But honestly just trying to straight up steal money from Tepper is about the only thing that makes sense here.

Gregs been on the field....and knows how to relate to players and knows what a coach has to go thru...hes pretty cerebral to be honest and could be close to the pulse of team dynamics... Mike Tomlin went thru a few basic disciplines but look were he is... We need smart. He couldn't do worse than the sht we paraded out there in the last 6 years under dipper...guess we'll all stay tuned to what dipper will do...BTW...im not a fan of the latest up and comer... cause I don't think mr patient will buy in...

Jeff Saturday (also a television personality at the time), who accomplished a lot more than Greg in The League and was a Super Bowl Champion, was widely pilloried for having been offered a job as Head Ball Coach when other supposedly more "qualified" candidates were available.

Does Greg really want to subject himself to that kind of scrutiny?  Why would he since failure is the only option because Tepper sucks so badly?
