Ryan Leaf on if BY is a bust

Recommended Posts

It is true that Bryce has been composed and mature despite being drafted by an incompetent douche bag of an owner and being in the worst situation in the NFL in terms of talent, coaching, and scheme.

Im not giving up hope just yet.

Although it was concerning that it looked like he wasn’t seeing wide open guys last week I think he just finally cracked a little bit after a season of hardship. He came out of the gate looking great on that first drive and then Icky got him hurt. And who knows how much that was affecting his play.

Looking for a GB level performance this week so we can end the season on a positive note.

Bryce Young is a high character person? That must have been why he refused to throw or run at the combine and packed on all that water weight to tip the scale in his favor. Not blaming Bryce for gaming the system, but to call him a high character individual is a stretch.

What do you have against this dude lmaooo. There have been so many presumptive number 1 picks who have not thrown or participated in the combine in favor of working out at their pro days. Hell, there have been guys who weren't number 1 picks who have chosen not to workout at the combine.  That has absolutely nothing to do with his character.

Im giving Bryce another year to see if the roster/scheme improves before calling him a bust. Year 1 is too early to call it for most players IMO, but especially for a QB in the middle of the mess that is our organization.

Only way they fix this mess is to get a QB guru to develop Bryce, invest heavily in o-line (Get a LT, move Ikem to LG, find an upgrade to Bozeman, find out if Corbett is toast, find Morton’s replacement because he’s no longer a spring chicken), get him a top WR and develop 2 more and find a TE that doesn’t suck. All this without a 1st and Burns, Luvu and Brown’s contracts looming. It’s like climbing Mt. Everest in only boxers in the dead of winter.

What a life journey Ryan Leaf has been on, one heck of a redemption story. He has pulled himself back from disaster and become a sports pundit with a unique and extremely valid voice. Glad to see him doing so much better. And I think he's right about Bryce Young and the Panthers.

    • Even all the rookie QB's who haven't played a single snap ranked above him? I really hope Bryce is using all this as motivation in some capacity. Because if this doesn't motivate him I don't know what will.
    • Of course. That’s what I said. Bad goalie play and the style of defense. Florida played amazing.  Rods decision to stick with a struggling Freddie cost us. Plus, Florida may be more talented than us and they play a very heavy game. Something we don’t do well minus Svech.  Glad the rangers lost.
    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
