This revisionist history on this board about Houston somehow being so much smarter than Carolina leading into the draft is just strange. The dumpster fire that we all see the Panthers as today? Yeah, Texans fans thought the same for their team this time last year. They wanted Cal McNair to sell the team. "They can't even tank right" was a common theme. No intellectually honest fan was thanking Lovie Smith for winning that last game. In fact, they all hated him because he cost them the chance to draft #1, which was for all intents and purposes was going to be Young, especially with an Alabama head coach and a front office well-connected to Alabama through Belichick, BOB, and Saban. We can talk ourselves out of it, but Houston got lucky before it got good.

Stroud (and to a much lesser extent, Anderson), makes them look like a model franchise to the Huddle, but all it proved is how quickly things can change for a team in 12 months if they take the luck that they're given.

My issue isn’t what Stroud does or doesn’t do

my issue was and is with the Panthers strategy or lack thereof…

if no one (and remember, these are paid professionals…it’s their job) 

1. knew enough to not realize the different talent levels and depth of 2024 qbs to 2023 and advise waiting 

2. Was  concerned  that young was a non performer at the combine 

3. Thought his physical limitations and setup was problematic for the NFL 

4.  That giving up a number 1 wide receiver for a rookie qb was not a smart move 

we can say hindsight is 20 20 but if those that actually played the game, wanted a player with all these issues, or didn’t, and let an owner cast the deciding vote,  it is no wonder the franchise has been a dumpster fire 

all water over the dam now…for the next 3 years 

thank god, I pay my last season ticket invoice of the Tepper era this year

A year ago the Panthers, Texans, and Bears were in the worst shape of all NFL teams.

Texans got Stroud, receivers, make the playoffs.

Bears have #1 overall, #9 overall, DJ Moore, and still have Fields.

Panthers have #33 and Bryce

a year ago, the board told me we were playoff bound baby!!!! with an awesome staff and one of the best rosters we have seen in a long time.

Only that this guy is trying to promote a bad nickname for the second year non phenom known as Bryce Young.   

In other non news... My nod to bad nicknames coming up, mixed with an embarrassing “fact”.

Fact: Brock (Sittin’) Purdy and Bryce Young were back to back draft picks. Yep. Young was the next player drafted. Forever linked, lol. 

If they make the offense into the 49ers or something, maybe this waste of an entire scouting department we took at the top of the draft, can elevate himself to resemble the last player taken at the bottom of the previous draft. You would hope so, wouldn’t you?

the narrative about everyone being sold on Young... it is not accurate. One of these ex GMs I listened to  said there were teams that took him off their boards because of his physical short comings. And what we have seen, that would have been the winning strategy. 

Imagine that draft pool without Young in it. There is probably no scenario that is as potentially damaging, anywhere. Not a single move you could even imagine that could have ruined us the way that one did.

The presumption was that Bryce would look like an NFL QB. Save for one game against the worst defense in the NFL he never did.

Despite those projections, one NFL analyst has Stroud as the only QB in this year’s draft class to receive a first-round grade. That group of QBs includes likely No. 1 pick Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis and Hendon Hooker.

The analyst is Merril Hoge, a former NFL analyst for ESPN who joined the Dan Patrick Show to discuss the major aspects he looks for in a QB:

“You’ve gotta process (and) decision-making. The process and decision-making aspect and accuracy have to be that combination,” explained Hoge. “If you don’t have that, you have a big problem, one of those things if you don’t have it is going to run you out of this league. (Stroud) does have it.”

While Hoge feels Bryce Young shares those traits, he went on to dissect how Stroud’s arm strength and durability outshine what Young brings to the table. Many analysts have praised Young for his creativity when plays break down, but Hoge believes Young doesn’t have the arm strength or durability to make throws from a dirty pocket in the NFL.

“How will they play in the environment that the NFL is going to create? The majority of throws in the NFL are going to come from a dirty collapsed pocket,” Hoge said. “They don’t have the luxury of being better than everybody else half the season. How do they function in that?

“When you look at that category, now the decision-making and accuracy aspect and arm strength come into play. CJ Stroud is strong, he’s dynamic. His ability to throw accurate-wise, he can attack every inch of the field. You take Bryce Young into that pocket-collapsing environment, he doesn’t have a big enough arm so he’s going to be limited in where he’s going to be able to throw. And he’s not the same quarterback, he can’t make those throws”
