It’s funny people want to call Bryce trash for guiding the panthers to pick 1 but Fields also has that in his resume.

”Oh but the Bears team overall was bad”

oh really?

???

The Bears #1 overall is from us, for Bryce.

He both did it and is it.

Still rooting for him but come on.

Lol

Think about…who originally had the first pick going into the 2023 draft.

my point being that Justin Fields wasn’t lighting it up either in 2022 but people on this board are claiming it’s because the team was bad but won’t give Bryce that benefit.

Im pointing out the hypocrisy more than anything. Not trashing Fields.

If I was Atlanta I would seriously think long and hard about this QB situation.

Sure Fields sounds exciting, but looking at their roster and this division they could seriously make a run for a SB if they added the right QB.

Kirk Cousins with those weapons I could honestly see them in the NFC championship game. If they can get HFA vs San Fran they might have a shot to make the SB.

in his first 15 games Bryce Young never once showed a glimmer of being special.

and that's not true of Fields.

these 2 things are not the same.  Fields is his own unique quagmire.

in 2022 Fields set the #2 all time mark for rushing yards by a QB.  Fields was still offering something.

and people called the cast around Bryce Young the BEST one assembled in a long time.  Until Bryce couldn't do anything with any of it.  People were never praising Field's entering 2022.

Bryce Young was really bad.  No point trying to compare him to better players that disappointed.  It's always just going to end up highlighting how awful Bryce Young and we were.

If you think Ridder is better than Fields I can no longer continue this discussion.

Peace out.

It's a mild upgrade at best. Fields is not a good NFL QB. Hence why he has consistently not been good.

He is a bust, plain and simple. His best bet is to find a spot somewhere to be a #2 and work towards a Geno Smith like resurgence later in his career.

Where do you think we got that #1 pick from that we used to select Bryce? It came from the Bears who had the worst team in 2022.

Why are teams reportedly interested in trading for a bust?

Like cmon bro. If you hate Fields just say that. But to say he's not a starting QB in this league is crazy.

Zach Wilson is a bust hence no team interested in trading for him. Fields has reportedly the Falcons and Steelers interested in trading for him.

If Bryce did this we'd be looking forward to this season with a new coaching staff

The Chicago Bears may have found a franchise quarterback in Justin Fields. While the Bears finished the 2022 campaign with the worst record in the league, the season as a whole didn't feel like an "L" due to the play of their second-year signal-caller.

Fields completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 15 games played. He made his biggest impact on the ground, as the Ohio State product rushed for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns. It was the second-best rushing season for a quarterback in NFL history behind Lamar Jackson, and he set an NFL record by rushing for 178 yards against the Miami Dolphins in November.

Literally the same reason people ars always interested in a QB on a rookie deal, they think they can salavage it. Remember Sam Darnold? How did that work out?

I'll give you some homework, find me an underperforming top 10 QB that has ever been traded during their rookie deal and ever turned it around.

Spoiler alert: You are gonna find out that this doesn't happen.

For a player as deep into his career as Fields is, that isn't great.

For reference, look at Lamar, Josh Allen, and Cam Newton's third year in the NFL. That's what being a successful "running" QB in the modern NFL looks like.

Ehhh the coaches were hyped up but I don’t remember the roster being. We had just recently lost CMC and DJ.

    • I feel like this trade just lives rent free in people's heads and keeps morphing into different things. First thing is that the rumored trade was for future firsts. They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
