I would 100% trade him for a first round pick if that were available.

If he was good against the run, then that's an easy player to keep as your cornerstone. But he just isn't. He's a one way, situational player and just isn't worth the 30+ million a year.

No amount of hype can overcome his tape. That's the bottom line.

But his tape isn't terrible. Some of you seem to be acting like he's some scrub that will be without suitors. He's a two-time Pro-Bowler with good production. Paired with another premier pass rusher and he could be the difference between winning and not.

People are dumb and reactionary, but Burns has been the exact same player since he came in. 5 years of the exact same film doesn't lie. Again, I'm not in the 'Burns sucks' camp, but rather the 'Burns isn't worth elite money' camp. He is clearly a quality player, just not a game-changer.

Exactly. He’s a role player like Reddick was. He doesn’t have that ‘dog’ Morgan likes. Even the 28 mil the Panthers offered him was extremely gracious. And that is exactly why a deal hasn’t been worked out yet. Even Fitt knew better. This is a huge test for Morgan.

You cannot keep this secret. You cannot tell me agents and teammates do not talk about this to friends on other teams. Anyone in any FO have already heard what's up through the grapevine. Any team interested already knows what they are willing to pay him and what they are willing to give up to do so. The Panthers have no bargaining power unless they get more than one suitor. You know that no team is giving up that much capital for Brian Burns. No amount of hype can overcome his tape. That's the bottom line.

It's possible it's still amateur hour.   I don't deny that.   I still think he'll be traded before the draft for a reasonable return.

He's not earning his current paycheck and is not willing to put in the effort to get a raise. Does that sound like someone you build a defense around?

Those are strong words. It's an opinion. I don't think Burns lacks effort. He has arguably earned his paycheck, and he deserves a raise. The problem is that he wants to hold us over a barrel.

He has gotten a raise 2 seasons in a row, he played on his 5th year option at 16m and now is on the tag at 24m.

If he wanted a big payday he should have had a monster season last year, he didnt and now his contract will be adjusted accordingly.

Spotrac has his value at 21m per.

If he'd take 21 then bring it. But if he wants Bosa money, GTFO. You can't begin rebuild with misallocating MORE resources. 8-10 mil is the difference in another fantastic player. Overpays handcuff you and send a signal to other FAs that Carolina is a money mark organization. We'll get guys th are looking for a bag and then lay up like bums and produce nothing. Jacksonville had that rep for years.

Go watch the tb game from 2022.  Biggest game of his career was perhaps his worst

It's a fact. Burns is so overrated here it's comical. I think his fans should pay more attention to him when he's in the game before they carry his water.

I made it a point this past season to watch Burns on every play. He did the same thing every pass play. Would just try to beat the offensive lineman with speed and run right behind the QB. The only time he gets sacks is when the DT gets pressure up the middle and the QB has to step back to avoid the pressure. He has no inside moves or bull rush at all. Then of course he’s a liability on run plays. Every offense made it a point to run towards his side. Was embarrassing

Burns is a two-time Pro-Bowler and has been productive relative to his pay just like many good young players in the league, and likewise hasn't even hit his prime. Furthermore, he's had to play in several systems under not so good circumstances. In 2023, like this metric or not, Burns did not get the opportunities to do what he does best, as we didn't have any leads in the fourth quarter and weren't in a position to pin our ears back and go get the passer. Despite a down 2023, any NFL type will tell you that Burns would be a nice piece to have. The biggest problem with Burns is not that he's overrated, (even here on the Huddle), but that he wants to be overpaid. He isn't a superstar but wants to be paid like one. That's a huge problem. He thinks he's worth more than his play has indicated. Those are the facts.

    • It really is insane how they always try to rig the game vs Dallas. Two exceptions being our playoff games.    Had we lost it definitely would have been right up there with the 2014 Playoffs vs 49ers, Dallas 05, Saints 2018 Playoffs, and SB50 as all time rigged games.
    • Say you don't understand PFF without saying you don't understand PFF... Every week seems like some of the same people are complaining about something they clearly don't understand.  I'm not saying they are the end all resource out there but once you understand their methodology you can start to appreciate some of their work. For example, their grading system isn't a high school grading system, try to look at some of it in relative terms.  Rico had an 82 rushing grade, that's pretty good.  I would be curious to know how that compares to every other running back this past weekend. Also, I think he had a few penalties, which if I'm not mistaken are graded pretty harshly.
    • Can we go back to square one for a minute and remember what we paid for this guy and how he was sold?  He was like, the anti excuse. Makes everybody better, Did we get that?  I think the answer is still coming but so far you might can say that for a game or two.  Cam had issues with personnel every season almost. Horrible OL, but he had receivers. Decent to good OL no receivers. Etc. Bryce needs to stand up, or keep standing up, however you want to put it. It is big boy time in year 3. He doesn’t have to make the playoffs but there is a standard. We’ll see what happens.  But the excuses are just fuging tired.  ps, I mean let’s not crown him when he has franchise record production in two wins,.. let’s see when they stop that, how he does then.
