Good FA so far minus Burns trade

If it wasn’t for the crappy return on Brian Burns knowing last year we could have gotten two first for him, the FA has been more than solid so far.  We know it was Tepper meddling and refusing to trade Burns and also not willing to pay him $30MM a year.

Burns was a sunk cost and Morgan had to get what he could, and nobody was willing to give a first rounder at this point. I do truly believe he got the best deal he could at this point in time.

I will choose to judge him on the other moves which have been solid, solidifying the guard positions, trading for a receiver and signing some good defenders.

He will need to maximize the returns on draft picks.   Both second rounders will have to be legitimate starters when the season starts or it’s a bust.

Not a fan of the guard money unless Corbett and Christensen injuries are career threatening. Need a track star WR and an rb who can break tackles. Defense is going to be cover 0 and hope for turnovers.

Lol wut. Why do people keep acting like signing guards is bad. The saints made a living off this and that is why they had elite OLs. We needed serious depth regardless because look what happened this year.
the guards we signed are massive and that is going to make our oline so much better

OL is general is absolutely premium right now.  The league lacks overall talent there

Gained:

2nd, 5th

DT A’Shawn Robinson

LB Josie Jewell

WR Diontae Johnson

RG Robert Hunt

LG Damien Lewis

Maybe: EDGE DJ Wonnum

Lost/Ditched:

Frankie Luvu

Brian Burns

Jeremy Chinn

Donte Jackson

YGM

Bradley Bozeman

Vonn Bell

Only one I’m remotely disappointed in is Luvu, but he wanted to move on.

Would have also liked to kept Bozeman as depth because cutting him didn’t affect the cap, but I won’t lose sleep over it.

No way we were gonna get a 1st for a guy and they'd have to pay him $30M in his first season.

Carolina would have had a Tee Higgins situation like Cincinnati. Them standing strong on multiple high picks is gonna screw them in the long run. Tee has already requested a trade. It's gonna get ugly.

Burns quitting on his team over money showed his true colors. He got exactly what he deserved. The NY sports media. One trick pony better find paydirt in the NFC East. I’d have let him go for a pack of grape big league chew so I’m really pretty pleased with what we got.

As much as I disagree with forking over big $ for free agents in the beginning stages of FA, nothing they’ve done has been out of line. I’ll be patient and hopefully less synical.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
