Google his record without Tom Brady

He was an atrocious GM and yet still took a Mac Jones QB'd team to the playoffs. The wheels fell off in the third season after Brady left because, well... again, Belichick was a terrible GM and having Brady and a long line of aging ringless vets willing to play on a discount to chase a ring covered for his years of bad drafting.

I get this argument but it’s so much easier to find a good QB in college than it is in the NFL. The Patriots were never in a good position to draft an elite QB under Belichick post Brady. And the fact of the matter is, elite QB’s don’t make it to free agency in the NFL.

Carolina is going to have tons of NIL money to get Belichick the best possible QB and roster.

I’ll go ahead and say it, Belichick will have Carolina competing for an ACC title in his second year.

The bottom line is it’s so much easier for a good coach to succeed at the college level then at the pro level.

To add to that, the Patriots defense were the real MVP in most of their superbowl wins. Everyone talks about Brady and the 3-28 comeback, but the defensive adjustments were special. He might be the best defensive architect and coach in the history of the NFL. Brady would not have those superbowl wins without that defense.

I really want to see this defense get a lot better. Our complete inability to stop stop the run paired with an unbelievable ability to blow coverages and have receivers streaking wide ass open down the field is just infuriating. We had elite offenses during the Howell and Maye years and we could've really made some noise if we just had a serviceable defense.

I can barely remember when we last had a good defense, maybe back in the days of Ryan Sims… So I’m hopeful Bill will finally get that right

Those would be the days of Julius Peppers. Peppers carried Sims and that became evident in the NFL. Don't get me wrong, he was a very good college player but he was a mid-round pick talent who looked like a top 10 picks with the opposing OL having to account for #49.

The frustrating thing to me is that our D has often looked pretty decent for a game or two but ultimately the wheels just fall off and when they fall off they fall the fug OFF. Once the struggles start they just don't stop and we start getting absolutely gashed week in and week out.

Has any super bowl winning coach ever went back to college coaching?

I know Harbaugh and George Allen went to the Superbowl as head coaches, but neither of them won the SB.

Bill Walsh went back to Stanford after the 49ers. They had one good season then two bad ones and he was done.

The defense was actually pretty dang good under Butch Davis, the problem was the offense. If you put Drake Maye on that 2009 team instead of Bryn Renner then you’ve got a top 10 team. But Quinn, Coples, Austin, Sturdivant, Brown, Carter, Thomas, Wilson, Reddick, and Searcy all spent time in the NFL.

Hell, in the 26 games from 2008 to 2009, UNC allowed 30+ points only 3 times.

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
