For some reason Canales wassn't calling things much different than Reich...lol. I definitely didn't see much motion or anything after the very first play that resulted in an int. I guess they tried more under center play action-ish things even though we weren't running the ball? I dunno

Weird seeing no dump off options but they are keeping so many to help block for that Carr'esk type drop back he needs. I don't really know what DC could do but pick his poison. I can't see one good option of what to do with Young that has a chance at working. It's built to fail.

They should be playing as if we still have McCaffery. Bryce has to be rolling out and throwing on the run for the majority of his snaps. He is a detriment in the pocket because he can't see over the line and lacks the arm strength to be a deep threat.  He should be scurrying around in the backfield until a WR finds seperation in the short field, otherwise he's gotta pick up the yards himself or dump it off. Dink and dunk effectively enough and defenses will give opportunities to chuck it deep and pray. Maybe he's not accurate enough to pull it off but it's the only path to success for him, and what drives me mad is we knew that was his game when we drafted him and still aren't doing it for whatever reason

I missed the game (great fortune that ended up being) but it sounds like they still aren't really doing that. What's crazier is that apparently the OL held up well so they're not the issue. Why NOT do that if this is the alternative? Is Young just a deer in headlights or is Canales another snake oil salesman?

He isn't fast enough for that. His runs worked because they were not at all concerned about his ability and they were not blitzing. It also forces the play to one side which the D would just adjust for, takes any help from the oline away and allows an easy blitz (he obviously doesn'thandle CB blitzs well). There isn't a good option and anything you come up with can be put into a corner quickly.

They aren't doing it because every NFL team has 17 games of tape on Young anyways. Nobody is fooled by what's coming he can scurry around in the backfield all he wants. No one is scared of his arm or his processing ability.

      To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.

      Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
