I think people are making too much of this idea.  Even for as revered as the Manning family is, if they're really the only ones to do that since John Elway, and do it twice, then a lot of people will turn on them in the football community.

I think if social media was what it is today, when Eli was drafted, that wouldn't have gone over like it did, social media would have a field day with it.

Plus, if we're smart and draft a true #1 WR with our first rounder this year, I think that alone could be very attractive to Arch and the family with already having that at his disposal.  Eli and his dad didn't force their way out of SD because they were just a mess of a franchise, it was because at the time everyone knew the ownership wasn't really all that interested in trying to win, they just wanted to make money off the NFL team they owned.

And despite all the dumb decisions Tepper has made, nobody can argue that he's just in it for the money, all he wants to do is win, and I think that would be a key difference to the Manning clan than with what happened with the Chargers and Eli back in the day.

Oh, and on top of this, with NIL these days, I think if anything, Arch would be more likely to pull a Luck on us and go back to school if we had the #1 pick than try and pull an Eli.

Agreed all except the Allar.  But even if it's that close in reality, I'll be satisfied.

Agreed, just throwing Allar’s name out there. I’m of the opinion that the 2024 draft will show that rookies on cheap deals aren’t it and that it’s ok to let them sit but not at first round value

draft your Mason Grahams, Tet McMillans, Travis Hunters, etc etc in the first.

We gotta find our next Peppers and this draft has two pass rushing studs.  It would be a shame to pass that up for a middling QB.

I would like to see Dalton let go at the end of the season, bring in a backup that's been in the league 5 or 6 years, a later round draft pick, and have a real qb competition next year.  I don't even care who wins it, as long as they can resemble an NFL quarterback.

    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
    • I'd give anything to go back to a 4-3 but we are so removed from having the pieces for that. All because Tepper wanted to force this 3-4 on all our coaches.
